Greetings From Nisus Land
"Spring Has Sprung, and So Have I"
Spring is finally here. You know what that means? We get to warm up. It also means spring fever, and I got it bad. Seriously, my hay fever is really bugging me. I should really see a doctor, or perhaps an actor who plays a doctor.
Anyway, without putting on pants, I've noticed that Apple has an event Tuesday. Unless they have come up with a way to cure my hay fever I'm not that interested. Well, that's not completely true. I'm interested, but I'm not sure any of the rumored products they are updating or introducing are for me. I guess we'll all find out Tuesday.
Now on to the newsletter, where we have a pitch, a tip, and our search for a new Spanish translator.
Enjoy!
Nisus Writer
"Modern Familiarity"
After many months of holding out I finally caved in and purchased a new M1 Mac mini. So far, I haven't missed my Intel Mac mini. Well, that's not entirely true. I miss my multi-monitor setup. I will also miss the heat generated by the Intel mini. It was like a space heater. Kept me warm in the winter!
My new mini came with Big Sur preinstalled. Big Sur is now the dominant OS amongst our users. Happily, Nisus Writer (both Express and Pro) are compatible with both Big Sur and Apple Silicon Macs.
All of that to say that Nisus Writer is ready for you brave early adopters and stubborn holdouts. If you are using older versions of Nisus Writer (Nisus Writer Pro 1 or 2 and Nisus Writer Express 1, 2, or 3) now is a great time to upgrade. The Nisus Writer Pro upgrade is only $45. Nisus Writer Express is only $20 to upgrade and both can be purchased from our store.
Nisus Writer requires at least macOS El Capitan and is a universal binary (meaning it runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs).
Don't delay, upgrade now!
Tips and Tricks
"Extract Text From Images"
Nisus Writer recently added a feature that allows you to extract editable text from your photos, scans, PDFs, and other images. This process is often called optical character recognition (aka OCR).
To use this feature in Nisus Writer select an image and choose the menu Insert > Image > Extract Text From Image. This command is also available from an image's contextual menu. This feature requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
For more details and to see some examples please read our blog post on text extraction.
Spanish Translator
Unfortunately our Spanish translator is no longer able to assist us. That means we are looking for someone to help us finish updating the Spanish localization. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, please let us know. We'd love to restore this localization for our Spanish users.
