Greetings From Nisus Land
"Bring The Pitchforks!"
Finally we have new Macs! The new MacBook Pro was introduced last week, and there are many changes in this new generation. Thinner and lighter! New Touch Bar! Longer battery life! Pretty great, right? Not if you read the comments in the Mac universe.
Many people are upset by these new MacBooks. The keyboard, lack of legacy ports, the loss of MagSafe, and the 16GB memory limit all conspire to create a firestorm of complaints that haven't stopped since 12:00PM PST last Thursday.
How do you feel? Is the new MacBook Pro a worthy upgrade, or does this new generation make you wonder why these machines still carry the name Pro. Let us know below in our survey. You can also send us comments. We love to hear from you!
As for the newsletter, we introduce a new version of Pro, and a new tip for users of Express and Pro.
Nisus Writer Updates
"More Sierra Compatibility"
We are very happy to announce the release of Nisus Writer Pro 2.1.6. This new version further ensures compatibility with macOS Sierra and adds fixes to the following issues:
Nisus Writer Pro 2.1.6 is available now from the Mac App Store and from the Nisus Writer Pro update page. This is a free update for our customers who own Nisus Writer Pro 2.
(If you try to automatically update from within Nisus Writer Pro or Express, it will always fail. Unfortunately you’ll need to manually download this version from our website.)
If you haven't yet purchased Nisus Writer Pro, you can purchase from the Nisus store or the Mac App Store for only $79. The upgrade from earlier versions of Pro is $49, and a three license Family Pack is available for $99.
Nisus Writer Pro 2.1.6 requires OS X 10.8.5 or later.
Tips and Tricks
"How To Use Tabbed Windows in Nisus Writer"
If you're like me you have more than one document open at a time. Controlling that gets messy, and I've often wished that I could have a tabbed interface like my browser of choice. Thankfully, with macOS Sierra, you can. That's because Sierra introduced a tabbed interface that almost any application can use.
Tabs work almost exactly like they do in Safari. If you have several windows open you can use the Merge All Windows command under the Window menu, where Tab-specific menu items reside. Doing so will merge all open documents into a single window with multiple tabs. Command-T opens a new tab, as does clicking the "+" button. Dragging a tab rearranges the tabs, and dragging the tab off the tab bar moves the document into its own window.
We have verified this new Sierra specific feature works in both Nisus Writer Express and Pro. In fact, this should work on many apps, as this feature is system wide.
So if you want to reduce open window clutter, this new feature is for you.
New MacBook Pro
"Solid Upgrade or Unworthy of The Name?"
As I wrote above, the new MacBook Pro is controversial. How do you feel about it? Do the new machines float your boat, or do they make you want to switch to Windows? Let us know in our survey.
