In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"Mountain Lion Kvetching"

I am glad to get this leap year business out of the way. Now maybe things can get back to normal. I had to hide out all day!

Recently we received an email from a user who asked "Is Nisus going to support Mountain Lion? If so, are you going to support older machines?"

Those are good questions. Questions that deserve an answer.

Yes, we are going to support Mountain Lion when it is released. The other question is more complicated. We have, for the most part, ended support for the PowerPC architecture. From here on we will support Intel-based Macs running Snow Leopard and up. Our web stats show that the vast majority (well over 90 percent) of our users are on Snow Leopard or Lion. Plus, there are API's that we would like to use and we can't do that if we are supporting older operating systems.

Apple sort of forces our hand in this area. They are a forward moving company and rarely if ever look backwards. As a developer you have to look forward or get left behind. So, we choose to look forward and enjoy the view.

So now can we (as Mac users) stop the kvetching over Mountain Lion? People, where have you been? This is what Apple does. It's not like it's anything new.

As Apple users, we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

Nisus Writer Pro
"Producing a Book with Pro"

Seth Godin, on The Domino Project blog, wrote up his experiences writing and producing a (free) book using, among other tools, Nisus Writer Pro.

I wrote the manifesto in Nisus, a fabulous word processor for the Mac. Using styles, I was easily able to create a numbered header for each section, and to see what the manifesto would look like when it was read. When it was finished, I sent it by email to my trusted copyeditor Catherine, who sent it back redlined in Word. I confirmed her changes and took it back into Nisus.

To create the printable PDF, all I had to do was change the styles, add a footer and "save as PDF". Nisus lets you put live links within the file as you're writing it, and those links come through in the PDF, which is essential for a manifesto - the riff is a launching point, so I wanted to be sure readers could easily click to find out more about the sources I used.

Thank you Seth!

You can read the rest of the blog post here.

(Disclaimer: Seth Godin is not paid by Nisus Software, Inc. and is not endorsing Nisus or Nisus Writer Pro. He in fact paid for his copy of Nisus Writer Pro.)

Seth is not the only one who has used Nisus Writer Pro to write their novel, book, or in his case, a manifesto. With our easy to use style system, the customizable, intuitive interface, multilingual text support, and our newly added (in Pro 2) drawing tools, anyone can starting writing quickly.

Nisus Writer Pro is available from our store for only $79 USD. The upgrade from Pro 1.x is $49. A family pack (three licenses) is available for only $99. A CD version of any of these versions is available for just $10 more plus shipping.

Nisus Writer Pro 2.0.2 requires an Intel processor and OS X 10.4.11 or later.

If you ever wanted to finish (or start) writing that novel which resides only in your head, now you have the tool to do the job in Nisus Writer Pro.

So get cracking!

Tips and Tricks
"Please Use the FAQ"

Rock Strongo here and I am feeling very lazy. That's important, and here is why.

I have been giving tips for more years than I can remember. It just never ends with you people! At some point you are going to have to help yourselves. So, I am going on strike until my demands are met. My demands are simple: help yourselves!

Before I do, however, I would like to point out that I (well, not me, but an associate) and only I have added new entries in our FAQ section. New entries include the following:

We (I mean me) have also updated some topics:

So before I go back to work and end this strike (please wait a few days, however. I could use the rest), if you have questions please use our FAQ first. Often the answer is there.

Now unlike me, get back to work!
