Systematic "Print Error" message on 2.1

Post by philippe99 »

Hi everybody
NWX 2.1 Fr; G3 10.3.5 ; HP deskjet 3420

Since I have installed the 2.1 release, I systematically receives a "Printing error" message when I print a document whatever its size is, its style is, ....
However every print is good. But when the print finishes, I cannot do anything within the document: the red circle on the top left of the window is gray... I can reach the menu above or the tooldrawer.. but I cannot put the insertion point within the document. Moreover, the lift handle on the right of the window (to go up or down in the document) is also gray: I cannot use it.

The only thing to do is to close it (with/without saving it) and then come back to it through "Open recent"

Word, AW, Ragtime, TexEdit,...work fine.

The 2.0 printed without problem.

Regards

Please send us Feedback on this so we can capture your console log. Typically problems like this are due to the printer driver, but if we can work around it we will.

Philippe:

We received your feedback. Unfortunately there are no detailed recorded by Nisus Writer to tell us what the problem is. This probably means there is some conflict with the printer driver. Let's see if we can diagnose it and find a fix/workaround.

First, does the print error dialog tell you anything more specific about the problem? Perhaps there is an error number listed or something like that?

Second, if you print to a PDF do you get the same problem? (To do this, choose print and then choose "Save as PDF" in the Print dialog.)

Third, if all else fails, try deleting your printer from the PrintCenter and setting it up again. If this makes the problem go away then there was some corruption in your print driver.

Cheers,

No error ID; just "Erreur lors de l'impression" (error when printing)
A typical Nisus message (I remember having translated the item), not a System error

Yes, same error

a. delete my only printer; re-install (printer driver is built-in Panther); same error
b. add a new printer: new name with same characteristics. Same error

Well, this is not a big problem for me as I always save the document before printing...Word reflex ;-)

Oddly enough, this phrase does not appear anywhere in our code. I went back and looked at all of our printing code also and we do not show this message anyway. I will continue to investigate the source of this problem. I'm glad it is at least printing for you! :)

Re: systematic print error

Ok Charles, I fixed the problem..by deleting the Nisus plist file !

And I also was able to reproduce the exact sequence when the problem seems to appear.
The problem seems to appear when, in the middle of the printing process of a multiple pages document, the printer sends a message for a empty cartridge.
The HP Printer utilility takes the hand, allows me to change the cartridge and makes its tesst (the printing process were in a stand-by mode).
Then, I go back to the printer utility, relaunch the queued printing...and all the print job was good.
Then I print another document and the problem reappears; delete the plist file and all goes well.
