Embedded fonts in pdf files

Post by iversonc »

I need to save a file in pdf format to send to a printer, but I also need to embed a particular font which the printer doesn't have. Can I do this?

Commercial printing company, not a printer

Post by iversonc »

When I read my post it sounded like I just wanted to print a pdf file. What I meant was that I'm sending a book file to a commercial printer who requires the file be in pdf format and have any unusual fonts embedded in the file. It's easy to save in pdf format, but I don't know how to embed a font.

I believe that, when you "print" from Nisus Writer Express to a PDF file, the font is automatically embedded, so you shouldn't have to worry about this.

P.S. -- I just did a very quick check, and it seems that some font vendors can set their fonts so that they won't be embedded in a PDF file, so I guess this is font specific. I don't know how to check up on a particular font. Still I have never run into problems with this, so I think this is the exception rather than the rule.

I believe that on Windows systems the user has to download and install support for Asian characters to be able to see (or print) double-byte fonts, which are used for some Asian languages.

Adobe Acrobat lets you "un-embed" fonts, but I think the embedding is basically automatic when "printing" to a PDF file from within Nisus Writer Express.
