I find that the new version 2.1.2 of Nisus Writer Express is just about completely unusable with Tiger. It cannot import rtf files made with Word: one get the endless typesetting barber pole and the dreaded beach ball, and NWE is listed as "not responding" when one prepares to force quit. It can't save changes to older NWE documents. It quits frequently. It cannot take large pasted texts without going into a vegetative state. Useless. Too bad.
Is there any way I can restore the previous version?
I give up!
I can repro the problem with non-NWX documents but I'm having no problems saving documents originally created using NWX (both pre-2.1.2 and new ones created using 2.1.2) so far anyway...
You can easily restore the old version - from the backup you took prior to upgrading to 10.4 (You did take backups didn't you?) But that version is known to have, unspecified, issues with OS X 10.4.

I'm not going to give up, but in spite of my usual boldness (wanting to be the first to test everything), this time I'm waiting for you folk to have fixed the glitches; I'll go on writing with 2.5.alpha1 which works beautifully with OS 10.3.8. I have Tiger here, but I won't switch until everything works, I'll wait. How did you say? Coward, I? Yeah, I agree. I just have too much to do at the moment to be daring, and I am so happy to have a Nisus which works, I just don't want to spoil my fun with the problems you describe. .
Anne
Well, Anne, if 2.5 is working for you, then I would stick with that! 2.1.2/3 is basically 2.1.1 with minor fixes for Tiger. There are many more bugs fixed in the 2.5 alpha. (and probably some new ones, which is why it is called an alpha!
)
By the way, I just want to be clear about what we are doing with our two versions here. The purpose of 2.1.2 (and 2.1.3) is just to fix the very basic issues created with running 2.1.1 on Tiger. Many of the bugs reported for 2.1.1 are NOT going to be fixed in 2.1.2.
The reason for this is that we have decided to make 2.5 our "bug killer" release. This means that we are focusing all of our resources on fixing the bugs in our database for our 2.5 release and we are going to release frequent alphas and betas until everyone seems to be pretty satisfied with the quality. Only then will we call it final.
We know that quality is really important when you are using a tool like this everyday. We are trying these new things with 2.5 and we will keep making changes going forward to make sure this tool is completely reliable for you in the future.
Cheers,
-Charles

Please note that a 2.1.3 sneak peek is now available that should fix the NEW problems reported by users working with 2.1.2. Please give it a try and let us know if your problems are fixed. We expect to officially release 2.1.3 in the next few days, assuming no one reports any more new issues on Tiger.
