Opening Word document loses font information

Post by Steve »

Hello. When I use NWE 2.7 to open a MS Word document, either native Word format or .rtf, NWE loses the font information and puts everything in Times. How do I get NWE to observe the font information saved with the MS Word document?

Thanks,
Steve.

You should send the word file to Martin at nisus. You can likely just open the file in NWE and then click help>submit feedback and send it that way.

Is that right, Martin? Can I send you one of our files (a portion of a PhD disertation) and the accompanying font and see if you can figure out a way to get these into NWE correctly? That would be great, if so.

An Update...

Nisus is not losing the font specification. I think MS Word gets the font name from looking at the FOND name instead of the font or font family name. Hence, MS Word has the font specification encoded as 'Minion-Indologist' (the FOND name) whereas Nisus Writer Express when looking through the fonts found the font with Font name 'MinionIndologist'. And since they didn't match, NWE just defaulted to the 'Times' font.

That takes care of that problem.

The man with the banana has it right: if you've ever got a document that isn't opening as you'd expect, just send it to me using the Feedback panel or via email (expressfeedback@nisus.com).
