just one word
just one word
Hello,
I am trying to find just one word in one document.
I have selected Find, and typed the word I want in the top window, and clicked search. But nothing happens. The word I am looking for in the document is not highlighted, or the page doesn't bounce to show me where the word might be. I would rather have it be highlighted, if it would do anything.
But alas, nothing happens.
I am not looking to replace the word, I just want to find a word.
I've checked the Help guide within NW, but that doesn't really talk about finding a word, and what it does talk about, my copy of NW (2.5) doesn't do it anyways.
What am I missing? ''
Thanks for any help sent my way!

Hello and welcome to our forums Amelia.
Is the word you are searching for inside a table cell that contains just that one word? That is the only scrolling bug that I have seen reported. You can force the selection to scroll into view by pressing the Enter key (note: Enter is not the same as the Return key).
If there is more to your problem than that, send your document to expressfeedback@nisus.com and I'll take a look. Be sure to mention what word you are searching for.

just one word
Hello again and Thank you.
My document is just a text document, no tables, no fancy nothings in it.
I was just trying to find one word in a four page document.
Trying to do the same sort of search I can do in Safari all the time, when looking for one word on a single web page. Safari highlights the word when it finds it, which is wonderful.
I believe I used to be able to do it in NW under system 9.0 and even farther back then that.
I was hoping NWE on Tiger, could do the same.
Thank you again.

The "Find…" command should work fine, and it should select the word. You should even be able to click "Find All" and have it select every instance of that word.
Next to the word "Where:" in the find dialog, do you have "Entire File" selected?

Yes, I have that selected.
I also have Ignore Case and Whole Word selected.
I put the word into the Find Word area and then click to find it. With the word clearly visible to me, I get the sound of Not Found and no highlighting of it either.
Thank you.

word find
What your screen shot shows me, is something I am not getting. My find is not highlighting the word I put into it. ':('midwinter wrote:It should look like this:
Could you give us some more information about your computer? Operating system? Version of NWE you've installed?
It just keeps stating that there are no occurrences of the word.
I am on a G4. Running Tiger 10.4.2
I am using Nisus Writer Express 2.5
Thank you,
Amelia
Amelia,
This may seem to be a stupid question, but are you certain that the word you're searching for is actually in there? Can you find it, cut and paste it into the "find" dialogue, and then search for it?
For instance, try doing a find for the first word in the document and let us know what happens.
Cheers

I would never have posted if that was the case. I do a lot of testing before I ever even think of posting on any support board. I'm a MacBabe! ''
The word I was looking for IS in my document. I also tried to look up the word "the" and "is." Both of which are in the document a number of times! Find did not find either for me. It did not highlight them, it did not bounce to each one, or even one, it did nothing. Only thing it did, was as as I stated in my previous post, was find "no occurrences of the word" in my document.
TextEdit does this Find perfectly. I get the Find window, I type in the word, and poof - it is highlighted in the document when found.
That is all I really want and need NWE to do for me as well, as it has done in many previous versions, even before OS X.
Thanks.

Martin - the particular file I've been posting about here, is a rather private one. And the problem was happening in any and all the documents I've been creating for some time now.
I jumped at one of the ideas that midwinter offered, which is normally the first thing I do when odd things occur - which is to dump the prefs!
After quiting out of NWE, I did this and reopened it, and.... Walla!
Any word I put in the Find window, has now been highlighted when asked to be found! Oh happy days!
''
Thanks to everyone for your wonderful support!
Happy Happy MacBabe here! ':D'

But there used to be a number of ways before X to find such a file. Was good at doing such a thing. Not sure of how to now. Would be happy to try if ya got a suggestion or two?
And LOL '' to midwinter!!
