International or UK English

Post by Greiggy »

It's nice having a toggle on the language to go from US English to UK English and back again (Nisus Newsletter this week) but I don't have UK English available in my 2.5.

I understood not having UK available in the betas and fc but thought the paid-for version would have that slightly greater breadth, historicity and panache of expression positively striving for attention…

Never mind, my collection of Bush-isms will do fine in US but how can I get UK English before I develop too much color over the issue and have to find a cold water faucet to splash my fevered brow? (or is it brough?)

Try this: Open NWE Preferences. Click Languages. Click the More button. Scroll down to "English (British)" and check* the box next to it. Click OK. Close Preferences or switch back to your document. It should appear in the language menu and in the language palette henceforth and forevermore.

*Or should that be "cheque?" No, I suppose not.

Got the UK English up, but it still defaults to US however much I change the prefs, the flag at the bottom and the language in the drawer. The spellcheck doesn't seem able to work in UK English. It's not a major issue -- don't use spell checking much -- but it would be nice to get it working properly. Any thoughts on this?

New documents you create will pick up the language you have set in Nisus Writer Express preferences. To change that:

1. Open the New Document preference pane.
2. Switch to the Format tab.
3. Set the Language popup menu to "English (British)", or whatever you like.

Remember, this only affects new document you yourself create. If you open up an existing document the language applied to the text in that document will be used.

If you open a document that has no language set (for instance, a plain text file) your system language will be used, not the language you have set in Express. To alter your system language you should visit the International system preference pane.
