Re: Is Nisus Moribund?
Hard to disagree.
There was a time when Nisus seemed more like my voice than a word processor. A few tiny sips of the koolaide and I have that feeling with Mellel now.
I still hope Nisus rises again.

Re: Is Nisus Moribund?
We are used to ‘updating’ our software with each new OS.
It is not logical, doesn’t it?
Good software, cleanly coded, works, with exceptions, such as leaving MacOS 9 (and Nisus was then only in version 6.5).
Saving time without ‘cosmetic’ resources allows Nisus not to find itself like an arthritic granny, struggling to get up, walking, with bugs where they are surprising, or, ‘gently’ stealing your work to put it in one more cloud, etc.
With MacOS 26, I find more speed, little, but there are.
Everything continues to be all right with Mac OS 26.

For juggling with styles, I transcribe the publisher's PDF into a "Editions_x.doc".xiamenese wrote: ↑2024-11-25 09:45:38I agree. There's not much that I feel is missing in NWP, but if page styles could be incorporated into the "Style collection" system, that would be a great enhancement in my view. Clearly .dot templates can be set up with those differences to cater for different target audiences, but as my workflow is to apply a style collection to a pre-written document using a macro, having page styles included would be a boon.Amontillado wrote: ↑2024-11-25 06:07:42 Most of NWP is just what it needs to be. It would be nice to have page styles, though, so preparing a document for different audiences could include flipping header and footer styles, margins, etc.

I open it in Nisus, I check if it is correct and then I record it in the "Editions_x.dot" templates.
Then, I just have to import it as the only style in the work in progress, and Basta!

That's what I do as it is, but "page styles" would include page size, orientation and margins, which my style collections don't cover. Yes, one can make different document templates with all of those, but I still think it would be great if those parameters could be set up in a "page style" that could be applied to a pre-existing document in the way that one can currently apply a style collection.jdevriendt wrote: ↑2025-09-25 02:53:35 <…>

Re: Is Nisus Moribund?
My yearning for page styles came from a time I was active in two different writing groups. Each group had strict formatting requirements, including page headers and footers.
Changing style sets did the trick, but I always had to remember to manually change the headers and footers.

Re: Is Nisus Moribund?
Hmm... my post from last night doesn't appear.
Nisus Thesaurus is still in the US App Store. Maybe Nisus Writer has sold to a new developer and has begun its resurgence.
I sincerely hope so. Every time a writer is saved from Word a triumphant fanfare rings through the halls of Valhalla. I always loved that sound. I wish I could hear it more.

Not sure too much should read into any of this. It could just be a case of developer accounts expiring and not being renewed. The app is still ostensibly for sale on the Nisus web site itself.
Re: Is Nisus Moribund?
The number of applications in my (US) Apple Store account has been drastically reduced. Mellel is gone, for example.
My computer is on its last legs, so I don't know if that is the reason.
Can anyone check whether Mellel is still available in the Apple Store?
Thanks.

Mellel is not available at the Swedish Apple Store anymore, and the same goes for Nisus Writer.Þorvarður wrote: ↑2025-10-19 08:16:39The number of applications in my (US) Apple Store account has been drastically reduced. Mellel is gone, for example.

Re: Is Nisus Moribund?
Mellel voluntarily retired from the App store a year or so ago for cost-cutting. It is still actively developed.
It appears to be healthy and not to be in any danger, other than rocket fire and maybe that is easing up.
If Mellel were to go, I'm not what I would turn to. Not Word, not in a thousand years. Libre Office is workable but with still plenty of quirks.
Some kind of desktop publisher I could feed with plain text from BBEdit, and I realize how crazy that sounds, would probably be where I landed.

Re: Is Nisus Moribund?
I've never looked for Nisus in the App Store here in Paris, as I always bought it direct from the site.
As of now, however, the only Nisus product displayed there is the thesaurus.
