word count help and misc. newbie needs

Post by atoma »

i downloaded nisus writers express yesterday as a trial demo. i am working with writing deadlines as i try this out and i am having trouble with some of my basic needs - i went looking to find word count and the help section bumps me to appleworks help. i don't understand the connection. why do i need to go to appleworks for my nisus word count ? i also see quark express help come up in the nisus help menu. why? i am also trying to do double spacing as i work, but it keeps jumping back to single spacing. is there some way to double space quickly - i am concerned i will have to go into style sheets or something i don't quite have time for yet.

To view the word count of a document, look at the Stats palette. You can find it in the tooldrawer.

1. If the tooldrawer is not visible, click View > Show Tools if it's not visible.

2. If the Writing group of palettes is not displayed, choose it from the drop-down menu at the top of the tooldrawer.

3. If the Stats palette is not open, double-click the Stats palette title bar or click the triangle to the left.

Another way to display the palette is to click Window > Palettes > Statistics.

I'm not sure why you are losing your double-spacing. That shouldn't happen. I can tell you how to change the style if you care to do that.

1. Click View > Style Sheet.

2. Locate and click the style you are using (probably Normal).

3. If the tooldrawer is closed, click View > Show Tools.

4. If the Formatting group of palettes is not displayed, choose it from the drop-down menu at the top of the tooldrawer.

5. If the Paragraph palette is closed, double-click its title bar or click the triangle on the left.

6. In the Paragraph palette, make the adjustment. If you do it by typing, press the return key after you type the number.

7. Switch back to Draft View or Page View (via the View menu).

I'm afraid I can't help you with Help. I haven't experienced that.
