Martin, thanks very much for your quick efforts. Even though I seem to have it fixed for this document, I'll probably make use of your solution as I'm completing two other books this month that will need formatted the same way.

This is why I've used Nisus since 1989 -- a great application with great support, and a great community as well.

Well, it did work to just rename the macros. They both downloaded as "file.php". I changed them to their correct names with .nwm, and they both work fine. I do think Martin's one that creates a new file and tries to preserve some character width is very useful. I don't know what the issue is with my Safari. I do have GLIMS installed, so maybe it interfered. Thanks to all.

I have a macro in my version of Nisus called "Scramble" which I think does something just like that. I don't know where I got it, though.

Thanks for sharing your macro Mark. I have my own redaction macro that I often find useful. It has the following benefits:

* It makes a new/copy of the current document before scrambling.
* It tries to exchange Latin letters using alternates that are approximately the same width, in the hope that layout is not significantly changed (this is helpful when trying to reproduce bugs).
* Some other scripts are scrambled (eg: Hebrew, Japanese, etc).
* Document properties (eg: author) are also scrambled.

I'm attaching it here in case it's useful for anyone.

Ah ... I realised after I posted it that I had probably written in myself. It's really simple ... or it was ... I've made some changes which produce a better scrambled result, but I'll keep that one to myself, 'cos obviously yours is much more professional, Martin — I'm no macro-creator/programmer — and I can see how keeping the changes to similar width characters would ensure that layout would be better preserved when necessary, so I'll download it and keep it to hand.
