Hi
Occasionally when I try to open a document in NWP, the document opens up an OpenOffice.org window. My question is about how to get rid of this window. There is no response when I click the red button in the top left corner, none of the usual keyboard shortcuts work and the application does not appear in the force quit window. The only way out I can find is to log out and back in to the system. Is there a more convenient way?
Thanks
How to close Open Office window
Re: How to close Open Office window
You can open activity monitor (in the utilities folder) and identify the process which is associated with this window, and kill it.
Strange, I have a similar behavior, although NWP is set to open each RTF file, occasionally files are opened with neo-office, or even with text-edit. I never quite understood what causes it.

Thanks. That makes sense.
Where does the OpenOffice come from? I've never installed it and can't find it anywhere on the computer. Not a big problem but puzzling all the same.

Can you check the exact version of NWP 2.0 that you are running?
This is done from Nisus Writer Pro:Check for Updates .. menu.
You should get a pane with:

Did you have problems with NWP icons appearing in unexpected places when you first installed NWP 2.0?Nisus Writer Pro v2.0/0400.0004.02 is currently the newest version available.

Re: How to close Open Office window
I use NeoOffice to provide my "office" needs apart from NWP and I've never had trouble closing its windows or doing anything else I want to do.skcryan wrote:Hi

As for it opening RTF files, perhaps they are files that are linked to OOo as creator? Or are they some other sort of file you expect NWP to open, such as .docx but which you haven't set the default for? If the latter is the case, then the answer is set NWP as the default application to open such documents by clicking on a document in Finder, doing command-i, then setting NWP to open that document and all such documents.
Hey Mark, Martin! Actually, it would be a cunning scheme if we could set in NWP prefs what file types we wanted NWP to open by default and NWP could then transfer that pref to the system. Setting the preferred app for every file type individually is kind of silly. But no big deal. It would just be nice to feel we were in control using NWP!

The 'check for updates' tells me that I'm up to date.
I don't really remember whether I set NWP to open certain file types or not, but I doubt it. (I initially installed NWP on a trial basis and would have been cautious about that kind of thing.)
My guess is that the OpenOffice window appears -and it doesn't happen very often - when I'm opening some kind of file (doc/docx) that contains graphics NWP is struggling to deal with. But that's just a hunch.

These are exactly my sentiments. I'm an obsessive deleter of unwanted files. I've never knowingly installed OpenOffice, so I wonder why it is occasionally appearing on my computer.

Regarding the version, NWP 2.0/0400.0004.02, as long as the last digit is 2, it is all right.skcryan wrote:The 'check for updates' tells me that I'm up to date.

NWP does use OpenOffice importers for .doc, .docx, and .odt files.
Re: How to close Open Office window
Many thanks. The version number does end in .02.
I think I get it now, somehow OpenOffice runs within NWP. I was more concerned about my own failing memory, that somehow I had installed OpenOffice and had lost all recollection of doing so. Good to know that there's no major cause for concern - just yet.

That's basically correct; Nisus Writer Pro uses an importer based on the OpenOffice.org (OOo) code when importing certain file types.skcryan wrote:I think I get it now, somehow OpenOffice runs within NWP.
However, it's not intended that you ever see an OOo document window. The window won't hurt anything, but it's certainly not desirable. The next time it happens when you import a document, could you please use the menu Help > Send Feedback and include a copy of the offending document? Thanks.
