Greetings From Nisus Land
I have no idea what the latest Apple event was about. Which is to say, I know what it was about, but it seemed less an Apple event and more an "Entertainment" event. Yeah, Hollywood.
I get that services are the new iPhone, which was the new Mac, which was the new Apple II. I honestly don't know if I would use any of these services, but I don't really care as long as they keep updating their core products like the Mac in a timely manner.
We'll see.
Speaking of the Mac, I'll just leave this right here:
The Wall Street Journal Hates The Apple Butterfly Keyboards
If you can't read the article (it may be behind a paywall) this quote from John Gruber sums it up nicely:
"I consider these keyboards the worst products in Apple history. MacBooks should have the best keyboards in the industry; instead they're the worst. They're doing lasting harm to the reputation of the MacBook brand."
Now on to the newsletter.
Nisus Mailbag
"We Get Letters..."
An M. Moss asks "How often does InfoClick scan my emails? Also, why does your hair look like that?"
Thanks for the question about my hair, but I have no idea how you know how it looks. As for your question regarding InfoClick ($15 at our store or the Mac App Store) as long as InfoClick is open it will by default scan for new emails every 60 minutes. This setting can be changed in the preferences. InfoClick also scans when you launch the application.
Mr. Jones has a question about exporting to Word (docx) format: "I am required to send some documents in Word format for work. How do I do this in Nisus Writer?"
This question comes up every so often and we are happy to answer. To ensure the best compatibility we recommend saving Rich Text Format (.rtf). This file format was created by Microsoft and is fully supported on the latest versions of MS Word. Using .rtf will ensure the best compatibility with those who are using MS Word. If you absolutely have to use the .docx file format, Nisus Writer Pro can export to the current Word file format (.docx) and the older Word file format (.doc) using the menu File > Export As.
For a more robust explanation, please see our FAQ entry on this subject.
Nisus Writer Express's ($20) default file format is also .rtf and can export to .doc and .docx but those capabilities are limited as compared to Nisus Writer Pro ($45 for the upgrade, $65 for the full version).
Thank you as always for your questions and comments, even about my hair. If you would like to send us a question or a comment please contact us. We'd love to hear from you.
