Nisus® Software Newsletter
March 1, 2011

In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"Oh No(kia)!"

Wow ... looks like February 24th was Apple Day. New MacBook Pros, a new technology called Thunderbolt, FaceTime out of beta, and a Developer Release of Lion (Mac OS X 10.7). That's a pretty big day, even for them. And it looks like March 2nd is iOS Day. They are busy up there in Cupertino these days.

While the new machines look nice, I really want to read up on the latest Mac OS. I know some people think the end of the Mac as we know it is here (the current conspiracy theory seems to think iOS will be the only operating system at some point soon) but I don't think that will be the case. The Mac part of Apple's business is very healthy, and won't be going anywhere soon. That's what I think, anyway. If iOS is the main operating system, I will deny ever writing this. I mean, it's the internet. No one cares about some guys opinion on the internet, do they?

Hello Nokia? What in the world were you thinking? Who would make a decision like this? Oh Nokia ... I have owned a couple of phones from them, and I have a soft spot for those guys in Finland. But really! What were you thinking? It's not like this platform has had any problems lately.

OK, sorry for the rant.

Read below for details on an exciting new macro for Pro. You can also read about how to vote for Nisus Writer Pro in the annual About.com Readers Choice Poll.

So read on!

How to Password Protect Documents In Pro
"And other macros too!"

One of the great features of Nisus Writer Pro is Macros. It is amazing what kind of things can be done with macros. For example, adding a feature. A well written macro can add a feature with minimal fuss, not to mention minimal cost.

For example, a feature that I have wanted for quite a long time is the ability to password protect documents. I realize it was not exactly a high priority feature, but I pushed and pushed until one day I received an email explaining that my feature was ready for testing. Excited, I downloaded the attachment and installed the macro. Worked like a charm!

So now I can happily report that this macro is available to everyone by going to our Pro Macro Repository page and downloading the Compress File macro. This will give Nisus Writer Pro users the ability to password protect a single document or a folder full of documents. There is also a Decompress Archive macro to open the password protected documents.

This is just one example of the many macros available at our Pro Macro Repository. There are many others that you can download, and all for free! The installation instructions are on the main Macro Repository page. Remember, these macros only work on Nisus Writer Pro.

If you need help with a particular macro, or would like to discuss macros or even have a suggestion for a new one, please visit our Macro Forum.

And remember, macros are only one of the many great features of Nisus Writer Pro. If you don't own Pro, you can order it for only $79 (or $45 for the upgrade from Express) at our store.
