Nisus® Software Newsletter
September 2, 2010

In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"Labor Day Sale"

You know, I have been wrong about a lot of stuff. For example, I bet heavily on the Christians (I thought they would outsmart the lions!). I just knew that Goliath would beat David. I voted for Dewey over Truman. I thought that the Chicago Cubs would have won something in 100 years.

However, I will not be wrong about this: Nisus Software is throwing a huge Labor Day sale.

That's right, we (as in Nisus Software) are throwing the largest Labor Day sale we have ever thrown (except maybe for last year. But, that was then and this is now. We must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.).

Anyway, we are putting just about everything on sale for 20 percent off. That includes both Nisus Writer Express and Nisus Writer Pro. We are including upgrades, family packs, and full versions. Academic versions are excluded, as are Nisus Writer Pro printed manuals. If I put those on sale I will suffer a fate that is beyond cruel.

I will have to watch both Battlefield Earth and Plan 9 From Outer Space. Repeatedly.

It's really an awful punishment.

To take advantage of this deal, just go to our store and purchase. That's it! No coupons, no secret handshakes. Just purchase and save.

But do this quickly as this this amazing, magical sale (oh brother!) absolutely ends on Tuesday, September 7th.

Holiday Hours

We will be out of the office on Monday September 6 in celebration of Labor Day here is the USA. We also need time to recover from the big Apple announcements that happened on September 1st. OK, that's a lie. I just wanted to mention the Apple event.

We will be back in the office on Tuesday, September 7 as usual, with a song in our hearts and iPods.

Tips and Tricks
"Esperanto Support"

Rock Strongo here, and I am here to clean up a mess that was created by someone other than myself many years ago.

In a newsletter written some years ago, we made a joke about supporting Esperanto in Nisus Writer 6.5. We had many users write in, and some were not afraid to let us know they were upset.

Just last week, a user wrote in and asked this question:

"Why doesn't your company support Esperanto in your products?"

Well, I can proudly say Esperanto is a supported language in both Nisus Writer Pro and Nisus Writer Express.

To enable Esperanto in our word processors:

  1. Open the Preferences, which is located under the Nisus Writer Pro/Express menu.
  2. Click on the Languages icon.
  3. Click the More... button and check the box next to Esperanto.

Spell checking in Esperanto can be done by installing the CocoAspell package and downloading and installing the Aspell Esperanto dictionary, which can be downloaded from the Aspell dictionary site.

As for keyboard layouts, if you are using the US Extended keyboard layout (which can be activated in the "Input Menu" in the "Language & Text" pane of the System Preferences in 10.6 and the "International" pane in 10.5) you can enter Esperanto characters. There are also custom keyboard layouts available for download.

To configure multiple languages in Nisus Writer Express/Pro, just follow these instructions. You may also want to read this companion FAQ that explains all of the language options.

I hope this answers your question.

As for me, I am taking the weekend (or possibly the next week) off to work a few shifts as a cook at my local greasy spoon.

I have to make a living too, you know.
