I have to admit I was struggling with what to write about for this newsletter. There are some things I just can't talk about, and other things going on around here are just too boring to write about. So, I was stuck.

Now, a few days later, I am not stuck anymore. That's because seemingly out of the blue came new versions of both Nisus Writer Express and Nisus Writer Pro.

Both Nisus Writer Express 3.3.2 and Nisus Writer Pro 1.4.1 are bug fix releases. Pro 1.4.1 also gains an updated file importer. For those of you who want to read the release notes for Express, you can find them on the Express release notes page. The Pro release notes are can be found on the Pro release notes page.

These updates can be downloaded from our Express and Pro pages. They can also be downloaded from within the applications, using the "Check for Updates..." menu located under the Nisus Writer Express or Nisus Writer Pro menus.

Nisus Writer Pro is available at our web store for only $79.00 (USD), and $45.00 for the upgrade version. A three license Family Pack is also available for $99.00. Versions on CD are available for an additional $10.00 plus shipping. A printed manual is also available for $25.00 plus shipping. Nisus Writer Express is available for purchase for $45 (USD), and $30 for the upgrade version. A three license Family Pack is available for $79. These updates are free to current license holders of Express 3.x and Pro.

Nisus Writer Express 3.3.2 and Nisus Writer Pro 1.4.1 are universal binaries and require Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and later.

One more thing about Pro: we have decided to produce an Intel-only version of Pro 1.4.1 that can be downloaded from our Pro download page. The Intel version should show a significant speed improvement in file translations (.doc import is faster, for example). This version will only run on Macs with Intel processors (this means Macs produced from early 2006 through now. You can check this by checking "About this Mac" which is located under the Apple menu on your Mac.). You can only download this version from the above link. Using the updater within Pro will download the universal binary version.

So, new updates for Express and Pro. These are solid, if not spectacular updates geared to ensure stability and fix some bugs. More importantly, it prevents me from writing about things like "iPad mania" or use the phrase "iPadimonium".

For that, we can all be thankful.

Shipping Delays

Unless you have been under a rock for the past week, the ash cloud hanging over Iceland is really making a mess of air travel. However, this also applies to freight shipped via air. For example, Nisus Writer Pro CDs.

The latest update from the company we use for shipping (USPS) is advising their customers that "As a result of these airport closures, several postal administrations have reported they cannot receive and dispatch mail. Consequently, USPS outbound flows have been impacted beginning April 14, 2010. Although restrictions on flights are beginning to lift, outbound and inbound flows will continue to be affected."

So if you are in Europe, and are thinking about order a Pro CD, be aware that while you will eventually receive the package, we cannot give a precise date as to when the package will arrive.

We are hoping this won't last long and shipping will resume to normal levels.

iPad Feedback
"We Want To Hear From You"

We have received many requests for an iPad version of Nisus Writer since the release of the iPad a few weeks ago. While I cannot comment on our plans for such a product at this time, I can say that we are investigating the possibility of producing such an app. However, I should say that our resources are limited, and writing such an application could amount to re-writing the application from scratch, depending on what kind of application we wanted to develop.

Having said that, we are interested in what you have to say. If you are interested in such an application, or want to comment on features etc., we have set up an email address for for you to write to us. Just send an email to ipad@nisus.com and let us know what you are thinking.
