Nisus® Software Newsletter
November 25, 2009

In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"Happy Thanksgiving Sale"

Here in the USA (and earlier in the year in Canada), we celebrate a holiday known as Thanksgiving. This day is celebrated on the last Thursday of November. This is the day that we are supposed to celebrate all of the things we are thankful for. I suppose some do. However, most of us get to stuff ourselves full of turkey and other fatty foods and watch a days worth of football on television.

This of course is followed by Black Friday, which is relatively new and, if you think about it, kind of scary.

I bring this up because of these two things: we will be off from Thursday until Monday morning. And, in the spirit of merchants everywhere, a sale. This year, we are offering Nisus Writer Express, our affordable, easy to use word processor, for the low price of $39 (regular price $45) for the full version, $26 (regular price $30) for the upgrade.

We are also offering Nisus Writer Pro, our powerful word processor, for only $69 for the full version (regular price $79) and $39 for the upgrade (regular price $45). We offer CD versions of Pro for an additional $10 plus shipping. We will also be selling the Nisus Writer Pro printed manual for $20 plus shipping.

These sale prices are valid from now until Monday, 30 November. No coupons needed, just go to our store and purchase.

If you reside in the USA, we hope you have a wonderful, healthy Thanksgiving Day. And order several Nisus Writer Express and Pro versions. For everyone. Just because.

Tips and Tricks
"Fully Justifying Text for Arabic (and other) Poetry"

Something that has been has been bothering our Arabic using friends since the onset of the OS X versions of Nisus Writer has been the lack of full justification of Arabic poetry. Both Nisus Writer Express and Pro use the Apple text engine, which does not support justified tabs.

This is a tip that our technical support team has worked up and posted on our blog. You can read the full post here.

With the help of a dedicated user and one engineer, we have found a solution in Nisus Writer Pro (Nisus Writer Express does not support advanced macros).

The first step is to install the "fully justify" macros. You'll only need to do this once. Here's what to do:

  1. Download the justification macros.
  2. They come in a compressed archive, which you may need to double click in the Finder to expand.
  3. Switch to Nisus Writer Pro (NWP).
  4. Use the menu Macros > Load Macro.
  5. In the open file dialog, choose the files you downloaded/expanded earlier (eg: "Justify Fully Arabic"). You can select all the macros at once. Click the "Open" button.

From now on these macros will always be available on your Macros menu.

Once you've typed up some poetry:

  1. Select the paragraphs of text you want to fully justify.
  2. Use the menu Macros > Justify Fully Arabic.

When the macro is done running, your text should appear fully justified.

One final note: these macros work by inserting kashida characters into your writing. It may be that you later want to go back and edit what you've written- having these kashidas may make that awkward. To remove them select the relevant text and use the menu Macros > Justify Fully Arabic (remove kashidas).
