Nisus® Software Newsletter
October 3, 2009

In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"Nisus Writer Pro 1.3.1 Now Available"

For the last month (give or take a few days) we have released four beta versions of Nisus Writer Pro 1.3.1. I would like to say that we have finished releasing new beta versions, so I will.

I am happy to announce the release of Nisus Writer Pro 1.3.1. This new version contains no new features, but includes fixes since the release of Pro 1.3. It also includes compatibility fixes for Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6). The release notes can be read here.

You can download this new version from our Nisus Writer Pro download page, or just launch your current version of Nisus Writer Pro and use the menu Nisus Writer Pro > Check for Updates.

Nisus Writer Pro is a Universal Binary and requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or above.

This release is a free update to current license holders of Nisus Writer Pro. For everyone else, you can purchase Nisus Writer Pro for $79, or $45 for the upgrade version. A Family Pack (three licenses) is available for $99. You can purchase a CD of any of these versions for an additional $10.

A printed manual is available for $25 plus shipping.

These items can be purchased from our store.

Nisus Writer Pro is a Universal Binary and requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or above.

Now you brave early adopters of Snow Leopard can finally get back to work.

Nisus Writer Express 3.3.1
"New Features, and Snow Leopard Compatible"

Sure there is a new version of Pro, but you didn't think we would leave out Express, did you? I didn't think so.

Having said that, I am pleased to announce the release of Nisus Writer Express 3.3.1 (the .1 is for extra goodness!). Unlike its sibling, Nisus Writer Express 3.3.1 is a feature release. The new features include an all new document manager, a style library, the ability to attach the active document to a new email message (in Mail.app and Entourage only), a selection history (allowing users to jump to prior editing locations), and an option to automatically capitalize the first word of each sentence during typing (this is disabled by default).

There have also been general bug and Snow Leopard related fixes. You can read the all-encompassing release notes on this page.

You can download the latest version of Nisus Writer Express from the Express download page.

This release is a free update to current license holders of Nisus Writer Express 3.x. If you would like to purchase Express, you can do so from our store. The cost is only $45, or $30 for the upgrade version. A Family Pack is available for $79.

Nisus Writer Express is a Universal Binary and requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or above.

So if you use Express, and Snow Leopard (or not), download now and use the new features. You will be glad you did.

Nisus Thesaurus 1.0.6
"Services Restored"

Snow Leopard brought massive changes to Services. That means Nisus Thesaurus was no longer on the Services sub-menu. This new release of Thesaurus brings that functionality back.

You can download Nisus Thesaurus 1.0.6 from the Nisus Thesaurus product page.

Nisus Thesaurus is a Universal Binary and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or above.

Tips and Tricks
"Rock Strongo Answers Your Email. Beware!"

Rock Strongo here, and not a moment too soon!

A Mr. (Name Withheld) asks the following question:

"I have read your tip in the last newsletter (controlling localizations in Snow Leopard) and frankly, it makes me mad. Not that you guys helped! So what am I supposed to do now?"

Well, Mr. Anonymous, I did a bit of research, and I found that it was too much work. Thankfully, our users sent us links to two apps that will restore this functionality back into Snow Leopard. Sort of.

Language Switcher does just what its name implies. It allows you to open a particular app in any localization it supports.

LanguagesService is a system service that does the same thing as the above app. You just drop the app into your applications folder, or Library/Services and watch the magic happen.

(Please note that we are not endorsing these products. We are just passing on the information.)

So there you go, Name Withheld, if that is your real name. I hope this helps you in your quest.

Now I am off to do my community service. Yeah, that's what I do now.
