Greetings From Nisus Land
Apple is Everywhere
"What in the name of Ed Hochuli is going on here!" I exclaimed as I rolled into the office for the first time in months. Things have really changed since I was last exposed to the outside world.
The economy, the stock market, the price of oil, the race for president, and the biggest change of all, Jerry Seinfeld is now a Microsoft shill. I am telling you, all of this has shaken me to my core. Or something like that.
I mean, I go away for 90 days and suddenly things change. Well, almost 90 days ... I got time for good behavior. On the trip ... I was good on the trip. Yes, that's it.
So while I was on my vacation I discovered that just about everywhere I went, there was somebody with some sort of Apple product. The guy with the iPod, the woman making a call with her iPhone. Even in the airport, travelers with MacBook and MacBook Pro computers were all around me. It's like I took a voyage into the bizarro world and came out in an Apple universe.
Am I just that out of touch, or did this happen pretty quickly, while my back was turned? I am not sure if this is happening just in the USA, or worldwide, but it is both odd and amazing to see.
It kind of makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I am used to seeing Apple as the underdog. Now, I am not so sure they are underdogs anymore.
Anyway, I was going to write about something else, and I got sidetracked by the above ramblings. So let's just move on.
Nisus in the News
Checking the interwebs these days yields some strange results. It also can bring some interesting Nisus-related articles, like the two I mention below.
MacGadget.de compares Nisus Writer Pro and another Mac word processor. This review is in German, but the gist of it is that MacGadget recommends both word processors.
The Unofficial Apple Weblog covers writing tools in their Back To School series and has some very nice things to say about Nisus Writer Express and Pro.
The blog Paperback Writer (one of my favorite songs, by the way) has a write up on 10 apps that "Ten Things to Help You Check, Define and Refine Words." One of the apps mentioned is Nisus Theasurus. Thanks!
There were other strange mentions, but I won't be talking about those here. Those are best left to whispering near the water cooler while pretending to talk about your co-workers.
Nisus Writer Express 3.1
Priced to Move!
I have mentioned the newest version of Nisus Writer Express in the last couple of newsletters. That trend will continue because I think that Express is a good balance between price and features. Plus, I get a kick-back from every one sold. So I have an incentive to talk about Express. See, that's how things work around here.
Express 3.1 brings new features such as Go to Page, a large caret option, a Page Borders palette, Danish and Polish localizations, and you can now see either physical or virtual page numbers. If you are using Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.x), you can read .docx and .odt files. There are also bug fixes and enhancements.
For the completist, the full list of changes are on our release notes page.
Nisus Writer Express 3.1 can be purchased from our store for only $45. A three license Family Pack is $79. You can upgrade from Express versions 1.x and 2.x for $30. And if you are an academic, student, or faculty member, the cost is only $26. That version can be purchased from our academic version page.
For those of you who are current licensed users of Express 3.x, this update is free.
Nisus Writer Express 3.1 is a Universal Binary and requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and above.
We highly encourage you to download the fully working 15 day demo. Try before you buy is a good rule of thumb, people!
So if you are looking for a small, agile word processor that is backed by a company that has been in the Mac business for almost 25 years, please feel free to download and purchase Express.
And don't forget to tell your friends!
Nisus Writer Pro Printed Manual
Look, we don't have a lot of people working here, OK? Only one of us works on the printed manual, and this person feels like I do not do enough to promote his labor of love.
So, in order to placate the person who wrote the manual, and to get my teddy bear that is currently being held hostage by said person, I write to let you all know that the Nisus Writer Pro printed manual has been updated. This 380 page or so page perfect bound manual now covers version 1.1, which is the latest version of Nisus Writer Pro.
The manual costs $25 plus shipping, and can be purchased from our store.
Can I have my teddy bear back now?
