Nisus® Software Newsletter
June 20, 2008

In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
Snow Leopard

It's been a good week or so around these parts. The weather is great, the area just hosted a fantastic U.S. Open (for the 3 of you that care, it's the golf tournament) and now we have our annual San Diego County Fair. Sounds great, doesn't it?

Then why doesn't any of that interest me?

Well, besides the fact that I am an oddball, my interest lies more in the upcoming Snow Leopard release from Apple. Well, upcoming as in a year from now.

Snow Leopard is the next version of the Mac OS. As the name implies, Snow Leopard is an incremental upgrade. By the way, who names these things?

Anyway, Apple says that they won't be focusing on adding new features, but on stability. That's really good news for everyone. Some of you who had problems with the initial 10.5 release know what I mean. It will be nice for developers as they probably won't have to modify their apps to run on Snow Leopard. Hopefully it will be less disruptive than Tiger and Leopard was to us, and you. From what I have read and heard, it looks like Apple is going to make things easier on users by refining and fixing (although they didn't actually say fixing) the core OS. Also, they are reducing the size of the OS. More hard drive space for all of us. This is exactly the opposite of what most software companies do, because it usually doesn't earn them any money.

Smaller, faster, more reliable. Sounds like a fantasy, doesn't it?

We shall see in a year if they are able to pull it off.

Nisus Writer Pro 1.1 Now Available
New Features, More Power!

OK, so Nisus Writer Pro 1.1 has been released. And just why haven't you upgraded yet? (For those of you that have upgraded, just skip this part.)

Hey, we spent a lot of time adding new features such as Comments, Mail Merge, and Go to Page. We also spent time adding to the macro language, to make it more like what we had in Classic Nisus Writer. A large caret option was included. Danish and Polish localizations have been added. Oh, and you can read .docx and .odt files if you are using Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.x). Plus we fixed a bunch of stuff and made other stuff work better. If you would like a translation of the word "stuff", you can read the release notes.

So, if you own any other version of Pro, and are using Tiger or Leopard, you can upgrade to this new version for free. For the rest of you, you can purchase Nisus Writer Pro 1.1 for only $79. A three license Family Pack is $99. A CD can be purchased for an additional $10. An academic version is available to those who are students, teachers, professors, and admins. Not for graduate students, though. You people should have jobs by now!

And, if you haven't purchased and want to try it out, you can download a fully working 15 day demo.

Nisus Writer Pro 1.1 is a Universal Binary and requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and above.

So, to sum it all up: new features, more power. Free for owners of previous versions.

Hey, it's the best I can do with the material I was given.

Reviews and Feature Requests
Lots of good words about us. That's good, right?

Here I am, listening to my iPod and playing Call of Duty. Eating a cookie too! And they said I couldn't multi-task ...

Since Pro 1.1 was released, there have been lots of words written about us. Most of them good. Here are a few of them.

Steven Sande, writing for The Unofficial Apple Website says "Nisus does a great job of listening to their customers, and it appears that Nisus Writer Pro 1.1 has included many of the features requested by users of the initial release."

Thanks Steven. We do listen to our customers, even though sometimes they don't think so. And we are still listening, for the next round of updates. Let us know what you would like to see by submitting a feature request.

Hey, it couldn't hurt, could it?
