Greetings From Nisus Land
"Intel Macs: Have You Switched?"
I can remember when I first saw the Intel iMacs at Macworld in 2006. My jaw dropped when I saw it boot up, as I realized I could no longer have a bathroom break when starting my machine. If I want that experience now, I have to purchase a machine with another operating system.
Just kidding. But not really.
I bring this up because I was checking out the Apple earnings call the other day and I thought of that. Yeah, I don't have a life.
Amazingly enough, Apple has actually made money on ... Macs! That's right, Apple is selling Macs at record numbers. Who thought that would ever happen, eh? They had been selling tons of iPods and iPhones, but not so many Macs. That has changed now, I think, at least for this past quarter.
Hey, I knew eventually Apple would focus on computers again. I just didn't think I would live to see it, and I am fairly young!
I guess the move to Intel chip sets was actually a good thing for all. I can remember that we were a bit skeptical, but once we actually bought one, we were more skeptical because the machine did not work. However, we got past that and now everyone in the company uses an Intel-based Mac. We still have PowerPC-based Macs, but they are now used for testing.
Apparently, a majority of you are also using Intel Macs too. The Omnigroup stats show that 83.5 percent of their customers are using Intel Macs. Who amongst us ever thought we would be saying that?
Oh, come on ... you know you never said that.
Admit it!
Nisus Writer Pro 1.1 Preview Release
"New Features, New Fixes, Same Price"
It's been a few weeks since we announced the Nisus Writer Pro 1.1 Preview Release. There have been many downloads, and a lot of you have submitted bugs and contributed in some way. We would like to thank all of you for your help.
For the rest of you, there is still time to download Pro 1.1. New features have been added. Bugs have been fixed. The media has been alerted. And yet you still haven't downloaded? Tisk, tisk.
OK, fine. You want details. I can do that too.
The big feature for this release is comments. These comments are compatible with MS Word. While we were at it, we also added a comment history, which allows you to see all that have commented on a particular selection of text. That features makes is much easier to read all of the comments without cluttering up your document. If you really want to keep your document clean, you can collapse and expand comments.
Mail Merge has also been included. With that feature, you have the flexibility to use either the Apple Address Book or a CSV file as your source. You can use custom bits of perl code as a placeholder, if you are into that sort of thing.
Go to page and a large caret option are new, and there are many, many additions to the macro language.
The system requirements are Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and above.
You can download the Preview release from the Nisus Writer Pro Preview page.
Happy downloading!
Nisus Writer Express
"The BMW of Word Processors?"
We have given a lot of space in this newsletter to Nisus Writer Pro. So much so that Nisus Writer Express is feeling ... well, a little blue.
That's about to change. Tom Dillon of MacApper gives Express a much needed ego boost. In his review entitled "Nisus Writer Express: The BMW of Word Processors?" Tom says "In short, Nisus Writer Express is everything a word processor for Mac should be: a combination of utility and elegance that just works."
To see what Tom is writing about, come to the Nisus Writer Express 3 page and download the demo. The price is right, only $45. If you are upgrading from previous versions of Express, the cost is $30.
Express is a Universal Binary and needs at least Mac OS X 10.3.9 and above.
So check it out, and see if it suits you.
