Greetings From Nisus Land
"Back To Work, Barely"
Well, it was fun to travel the "world" after the release of Pro, but now it is time to get back to doing what I do best: nothing. You see, some would consider me to be a layabout. However, layabout is such a shiftless word. I prefer lazy bum.
Being lazy has its perks. I get to come to work, stream video and audio, and every so often do enough work to get by. Yup, I work hard ... at times.
But it isn't all fun and games. I have learned a few lessons along the way. One, never, ever take the company payroll to a casino. My intentions were good, don't get me wrong. I was trying to double it! But, perhaps roulette is not my game.
Also, there is no such thing as an Apprentice Wallet Inspector. Make sure your Wallet Inspector is licensed.
In Nisus news, which is the reason you are reading this, we are working on the next version of Express and an update to Pro. More news on those items in the next newsletter, but I didn't want you all to think we weren't doing anything.
On a serious note, the response to Nisus Writer Pro has been terrific. We would like to thank all of you for your patience, and for sticking with us through good times and bad. We know we have a lot of work to do, but your faith in us makes the work even more rewarding.
So let's get on with the newsletter, shall we?
Nisus Writer Pro
"Marketing, Schmarketing"
This is the part of the newsletter where I am supposed to say something like this: "The reviews are in, and the press and public agree: Nisus Writer Pro is a winner!" Well, wake me when that's over. Or I could list the reviews of Pro like this:
Washington Times Review
CUK (in French)
Mac NZ
Or mention that Nisus Writer Pro is a "Staff Pick" on the Apple Downloads Page
A marketing person might also say that users and press alike love the new features, such as Table of Contents, Bookmarks, Indexing, Cross References, and Text Wrap around Images. They also love Classic Nisus Writer features like Attribute Sensitive Search, Glossaries, and the Extended Nisus Macro language.
This person also might invite you to read all about Pro, or download the fully working demo from the our Nisus Writer Pro page.
But I won't do that.
However, I will say that Nisus Writer Pro is a Universal Binary, so it runs on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs. You will need Mac OS X 10.3.9, or 10.4 if you need right to left text support.
Finally, let there be no mistake: In my opinion, Nisus Writer Pro is better than a cold beer on a hot Christmas morning!
Newsletter Update
As some of you may have noticed, the way we send out our newsletter has changed. We are using a different process and server.
We did this because our web host requires us to re-verify all of our subscribers. This is due to their pretty strict anti-spam policy.
So, if you would like to continue receiving the newsletter, where you receive Nisus news, tips, and information, please re-verify your subscription on this page:
http://www.nisus.com/resubscribe.php
When you click on the Subscribe button, you are sent an email that contains a link. Click on the link, and you are re-subscribed.
If you have any questions about this, please send us an email to our listmove@nisus.com address.
Thank you.
Tips and Tricks
"Nisus New File Explained"
I am Rock Strongo, and you are not. For that, you should be thankful.
Now that the pleasantries are done, it is time for a tip, before the shakes hit me like a brick through a window.
Now, let's get to it, shall we?
Let's discuss the Nisus New File. First, what in the world is the Nisus New File? Funny you should ask, since that is what we are covering this time.
The Nisus New File is a specialized "stationery" document opened whenever you choose "New" on the menu. This file contains a number of predefined styles. It also contains settings for line spacing, default font, and all kinds of wonderful appearance stuff. This document is easily customizable by you, dear user.
I suppose you want to know how to modify this file?
Fine!
The easy way to modify the Nisus New File is by choosing "Preferences" from the "Nisus Writer Express/Pro" menu and clicking on "New Document" (or "New File" in Pro). You will see three (3) tabs: View, Format, and Advanced.
Clicking the "View" tab will give you options for changing the view (Page, Draft, or the Style Sheets), the Units, whether or not you want to see the Tooldrawer, and a checkbox for spell checking as you type.
The Format tab is my favorite. It is the money tab! Why do I say that? Because from here you can change the default style, preferred language, the font, paragraph alignment, and line and paragraph spacing.
Then there is the "Advanced" tab, which allows you to directly modify the Nisus New File with any other document settings.
Now you want an example? What is it with you people?
The default for both Express and Pro is Times at 12 point with line spacing at 1 lin and after paragraph spacing at 6 pt. However, those settings make you very angry, and you want to change them immediately! So, you change those settings to Optima at 18 pt, line spacing at zero, with the alignment at center. You can also set the placement of your document, just in case you want to have it open in the lower right hand corner of your screen.
How? Choose "Preferences" from the "Nisus Writer Express/Pro" menu and click on "New Document". Then click on the "Format" tab. Make your changes. That's it!
From now on, every new document will contain your odd settings.
Now, off I go, to curse Fake Steve and his minions.
