Greetings From Nisus Land
"Embezzling For Fun and Profit"
While waiting for the XFL season to begin (for those who are not sports fans, that's a joke, folks), I have discovered that it is amazingly easy to embezzle money from a certain company. Like this one. I am not going to describe how I did it (it involves monkeys, duct tape, and a fair amount of soup) but I am now richer to the tune of last quarters profits.
So, feeling like a new man, and full of myself for having done the deed, I spent all of that money on this.
Let me tell you, it was worth it.
Now on to something that won't cost me even more time in the pokey. We haven't been too timely with these last few newsletters. Part of it is laziness, part of it is because we are up to our ears in busy. Once that ends, we will start sending out newsletters regularly to both bother and annoy.
It's good to be back!
Nisus Writer Express
"More Writing, Less Reading"
Do you download a product and just start using it without reading the manual? Me too. Thankfully, Nisus Writer Express allows you to do just that. I mean, it is better if you read the manual, as you will get more out of the program. But, the interface is such that you can just start writing, without being distracted by awkward interfaces and the like. Our interface allows you to concentrate on getting your thoughts and ideas from your brain to your computer without losing your mind. What's left of it, that is.
If it is features you are worried about, Express has them. Old favorites such as non-contiguous selection, powerful find and replace, WYSIWYG font viewing, right to left text input, Multikey Keyboard Shortcuts, and a great built-in table tool. We also have new features like easy to use user-defined styles, Full Screen View, LinkBack support, QuickFix auto-correct function, .doc support, sections and columns, and more. Best of all, our native file format is RTF, so exchanging documents with colleagues is easy, regardless of what word processor they use.
The cost is only $69.95 for the download, a CD version is $10.00 more plus shipping. There is also a family pack (three licenses ... an excellent value!) for $109.95.You can order Express from our main Express product page.
You can also download a fully working 30 day demo from the above mentioned page.
Tell your friends and your family about us. But, don't tell the police. I have some explaining to do ...
Nisus Writer Express Printed Manual
"If You Know How To Read, You Need This Manual"
It is true that you can now purchase a printed Nisus Writer Express Manual. It is not true that I wrote it. For that, you should all be thankful.
This 231 page, spiral bound book is a fine read if you like that sort of read. It's not a novel, but a reference. It should help you get through the rough patches with Express, but not your relationships. I offer that service on another web site, not here!
You can order this manual from our manual ordering page.
The cost is $15.00 plus shipping, and is available now.
So, if you need something to get you those long nights, try counseling. If you want a Nisus Writer Express reference, then buy this book ... er ... manual!
Tips and Tricks
"The Nisus New File"
Rock Strongo here, and it's been a while since there has been a tip. That changes now! Or, at least once you are done reading.
In any case, here we go.
Dr. Nathan Gerbil of Lockjaw, British Columbia asks "What is the Nisus New File, and how will it cure my athlete's foot?"
Doctor, if I may call you that, you are all over the map here. Let me answer the first question ... well, first. The second one I will ignore.
The Nisus New File is a specialized "stationery" document opened whenever you choose "New" on the menu. The New File contains a number of predefined styles. It also contains settings for line spacing, default font, and all kinds of wonderful appearance stuff. This document is easily modified to your preferred settings. So how do you do that? What am I, the answer man?
Wait, I am.
Let me give you an example. Express has Times at 12 point with line spacing at 1 inch and after paragraph spacing at 6 pt. You want to change those settings to Zapf Dingbats at 18 pt, line spacing at zero, with the alignment at center. Why? Because you are odd. You change this by choosing "Preferences" from the "Nisus Writer Express" menu and clicking on "New Document". Click on the "Format" tab.
You can change the default style, preferred language, the font, paragraph alignment, and line and paragraph spacing.
If you click the "View" tab, you will see options for changing the view (Page, Draft, or the Style Sheets), the Units, whether or not you want to see the Tooldrawer, and a checkbox for spell checking as you type.
There is also the "Advanced" tab, which allows you to directly modify the Nisus New File with any other document settings.
From now on, your new settings will be the default for every new document you open.
So now it is your problem, not mine!
