In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"WWDC, Mac Pro, and Leopard"

Last weeks Apple World Wide Developers Conference revealed a few new bits of fun, eh? First off, let us tackle the new Mac Pro, the replacement for the PowerMac. This beast is so powerful they don't even call it a computer. It's now a workstation. It comes equipped with two dual core Intel processors, 1 gig of RAM, huge hard drives, and lots of space for more drives, including another optical drive. Yikes!

The early reviews are in, and it seems that these beasts are very, very fast. For the money, they compare very well with similar Windows machines. Yeah, they are cheaper. Ever think you would hear that about a Mac?

Steve Jobs and a cast of thousands introduced Leopard, or Mac OS X 10.5. Seems there are improvements in Spotlight (thankfully), iCal, Dashboard, Mail, and iChat. The big news seems to be a couple of new features: Time Machine and Spaces.

Time Machine is a backup tool at its heart, that is built into the operating system. But, it is the way that it works that makes it special. Let's say you lost a few photos. Well, simply go back in time (Time Machine, get it?) and this tool will search until it finds what you want. Watching the demo makes it seem pretty slick. We shall see what it is like in actual use.

Spaces lets you organize your windows into groups, or ... that's right, spaces. For example, you can group your work apps into one space, iChat and iTunes in another, Mail in a third, etc. Sounds like a good idea and a feature that I would use if I were ever busy.

There are supposedly more features, but at the moment they are "Top Secret". We have heard things, but I will believe these things when I see them. If you read all about Leopard, you can visit Apple's Leopard Sneak Peek page.

It does look like Leopard will be a nice upgrade. It still lacks one feature that I think would be a winner.

A loan from a bank so I can afford it and a new Mac Pro.

Nisus Writer Express
"Back To School with Express Sale"

You know, I have never understood why anyone needs more than basic education. I went to a four year school, and it didn't do me any good at all. Why do I need to know how to do fractions and learn how to read?

I do realize that many folks are Academics, or students, or just pretending. I also realize that you are all going back to school very soon, if you aren't already there. For you lot, I am running a sale. A back to school sale, as it were.

So from now until the end of the month, which would be August 31st for the calendar impaired, Nisus Writer Express Academic Version is only $35.00. The CD version is $10.00 more plus shipping.

To qualify for this version, you must be able to prove that you are a student or faculty at an educational facility. A scan of a student ID works, for example. A note from your mother does not. For more info, please have a look at our Express academic page.

If you just want to purchase Express, go to our Express purchase page.

If you would like to read all about Express and what it can do for you, please check out our main Express page.

So remember, this sale is on from now until 31 August.

Maybe now someone can read it to me so I can understand what I am talking about.
