In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"MacBooks on Monster Island"

I am writing this from Monster Island, where the Superheros (and their friends) come to play. It is a pleasure to be able to wear my cod piece without anyone pointing and laughing. Except for Wonder Woman, that is.

So as I have a look around Monster Island I notice that most of these folks are using Macintosh computers. So there was quite a stir when Apple released the new MacBooks. Geez ... they just released the 17" MacBook Pro, and now these!?! There really is something in the water up in Cupertino these days.

I got a chance to see these new machines in person at the Monster Island Apple Store (don't bother looking it up, it isn't listed) and I got a chance to play with one for a bit. They are fast, and pretty. The new 13.3" widescreen is gorgeous, and seems to be a nice size. Not a 15", and not a 12" Just right, as Goldilocks said. It will fit nicely in that tray on an airplane. For those of us who like to tinker, you can easily upgrade the ram and hard drive.

However, the price is $100.00 more than the iBook, which I am sure will irritate some people. But, it seems to be worth the extra money for what you get.

As usual, you should also know that with it being an Intel-based Mac, there is no Classic whatsoever. Buyer beware.

I polled a few of the inhabitants of the island and asked them about the new MacBook. Most said that they would get one if it didn't weigh them down. You know, they do fly an awful lot, and they need something fairly lightweight to carry with them. This machine might do the trick.

The way I see it, if they are good enough for Superheros (I can't mention names, sorry) they are good enough for me.

Nisus Writer Express
"When All You Want To Do Is Write"

You know what goes really well with the new MacBook Pro and MacBook? Yeah, that's right: Nisus Writer Express.

I can say that because, in my own independent testing, Nisus Writer Express is very, very fast on these new machines. That means that you can crash the app in less than half the time than with the fastest PowerPC machines. (It's a joke, people. A joke! Don't write in and say stupid things ... I am warning you. I am the only one who is allowed to say stupid things ... wait, that can't be right.)

Now, as I was saying, Nisus Writer Express 2.6.1 is great for someone who just wants to write, without having to read the manual before using the product. Or, without being distracted by floating toolbars or awkward interfaces. Our interface allows you to concentrate on getting your thoughts and ideas from your brain to your computer without fuss.

You want features? Express has old favorites such as non-contiguous selection, powerful find and replace, WYSIWYG font viewing, right to left text input, and a great built-in table tool. We also have new features like easy to use user-definded styles, LinkBack support, QuickFix auto-correct function, .doc support, sections and columns, and more. Best of all, our native file format is RTF, so you can exchange documents with anyone you like, regardless of word processor.

The cost is only $69.95 for the download, a CD version is $10.00 more plus shipping. There is also a family pack (three licenses ... an excellent value!) for $109.95.

You can order Express from our main Express product page.

You can also download a fully working 30 day demo from the above mentioned page.

Best of all, we are getting close to releasing an update to Express, 2.7. There will be a few new features, such as full screen mode, leader tabs, and multikey keyboard shortcuts.

This update will be free to those who already own Express.

So buy now, and get free stuff later. Such a deal!

KeyFonts DX
"It's All About Bragging Rights"

So now comes the part of the newsletter where I try to sell you fonts. Why? Because, you just can't have enough fonts. Ever. It's kind of like memory and hard disk space.

Having said that, the KeyFonts DX CD comes with 3007 high quality Truetype - Western Latin 1 (CP 1252)/ANSI fonts.

It will only set you back $39.95, and you can order this wonderful CD from the KeyFonts product page.

You can also preview those fonts on the above page.

You can purchase the Nisus Writer Express and KeyFonts DX CD's for one low price of $99.95 from this link.

So if you want to spice up a report, letter, or just be able to tell your friends that you have more fonts than they do, you can't go wrong with KeyFonts DX.

Bragging rights are important, you know.

Macspeech Scriptpak For Nisus Writer Express

Those of you fine folks who are using iListen from MacSpeech can rejoice! MacSpeech has released a ScriptPak for Nisus Writer Express.

This ScriptPak installs over 300 commands into iListen that will allow the user to do just about anything by voice that you would do with menu or keyboard commands.

How cool is that?

The ScriptPak for Express sells for $19.00. iListen sells for $99.00 and both can be purchased from the MacSpeech store.

Enjoy!
