In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"BootCamp and Zombies"

At Nisus Software, we believe in helping out our community. In this case, we are helping to rid our town of a scourge that threatens our very way of life. That's right, Zombies.

Oh, you can laugh all you like, but we are not the only city with problems of this sort.

Anyway, while I was doing my part to rid the undead from our population, I was pondering the ramifications of Boot Camp.

For those of you who do not know, Boot Camp is designed to allow dual booting of both Mac OS X and Windows XP on your shiny new Intel Mac.

There have been those who have said that this app will be the death of the Macintosh. This will kill the Mac gaming market. MS will take over, etc. Yeah, I don't think so.

If you remember, this kind of talk was going on around the time of the first release of Virtual PC. Or even before that, the PowerMacs that shipped with an Intel (I think) chip inside, so you could run Windows 3.1 on your machine. Ugh!

The Mac isn't going away. If anything, the Mac market is growing, and growing fairly dramatically it seems. We have seen this growth, as have others.

To me, Boot Camp is a Trojan horse that will bring more users to the platform. Better hardware, better user experience, and you can boot into XP if you have to for those apps you just can't find on the Mac. That's a very good thing for everyone, I would think.

Now I am off to Fred's Discount House of Caskets and Boxes. I am feeling a bit hungry for brains, all of a sudden ...

Nisus Writer Express
"Writing Without Distractions"

The latest version of Nisus Writer Express, 2.6.1 brings a universal binary, which means that those of us who have an Intel Mac can use Express natively. The speed difference is quite noticeable. In fact, user "Bloodthirstyrobot" at MacUpdate says "... the performance difference is quite noticeable". See, independent confirmation.

By the way, Express 2.6.1 also works on PowerPC machines. I don't want to confuse anyone.

Anyway, Nisus Writer Express 2.6.1 is great for someone who just wants to write, without being distracted by floating toolbars or awkward interfaces. Our award winning interface allows you to concentrate on writing, which should probably be the main focus, being someone that ... well, writes.

Express also has old favorites such as right to left text input, non-contiguous selection, powerful find and replace, WYSIWYG font viewing, and a very much improved built-in table tool. We also have new features like easy to use user-definded styles, LinkBack support, a preference to open your last document when launching Express, QuickFix auto-correct function, .doc support, sections and columns, and much more. Best of all, our file format is RTF, so you can exchange documents with anyone you like, regardless of word processor.

The cost is only $69.95 for the download, a CD version is $10.00 more plus shipping. There is also a family pack (three licenses ... a very good value!) for $109.95.

You can order Express from our main Express product page.

You can also download a fully working 30 day demo from the above mentioned page.

Now that I have told you all of this, you should note that we do not stand still. We are currently working on an update to Express 2.6.1. It is mainly a bug fix release, but Express 2.7 will also have a few small features as well.

But that is the future. You can enjoy Express 2.6.1 now.

KeyFonts DX
"Now That's A Lot of Fonts!"

Mac OS X 10.4 ships with a surprising amount of beautiful fonts. So what's another 3007 or so?

The KeyFonts DX CD comes with 3007 high quality Truetype - Western Latin 1 (CP 1252)/ANSI fonts.

The cost is only $39.95, and you can order this wonderful CD from the KeyFonts product page.

You can also preview those fonts on the above page.

You can purchase the Nisus Writer Express and KeyFonts DX CD's for one low price of $99.95 from this link.

So if you want to spice up that report, letter, or that special invitation to tea, you can't go wrong with KeyFonts DX.

Now where is that kid with my latte?

Tips and Tricks
"Fun with Headers, Footers, and Sections"

Now that Spring is here, I, Rock Strongo, am back with another tip. This time, I tell tall tales about headers, footers, and sections.

John Phlegming of Redding, CA asks the following question: "I have a 200 page document. I want to have page numbering start on page 6. I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Can you help, oh wise one?"

Yes. Yes I can.

First, on page five, choose the menu Insert > Section Break > Next Page. Go to the Sections palette group in the tool drawer. Check the Different This Section and Starting Page options. In this case, we want pages in the new section to start numbering from one.

From there, click in the header (or footer, if you prefer) on page 6, then choose the menu Insert > Automatic Number > Page Number. If all is well, Express will show the number "1" on the first page after the section break, and so on.

Mr. Phlegming, I hope this helps.
