Nisus® Software Newsletter
March 10, 2006

In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"Mac Mini, iPod Hi-Fi, and Staying Awake"

Before I begin this newsletter, I want to apologize to my fellow co-workers for being loud in the writing of this newsletter. Unfortunately, I interrupted both nap time and quiet time, and for that I apologize.

Having said that, let's get on with it, shall we?

Apple last week released new Intel-based Macs. These new Mac Minis are a bit more expensive than the model they replace, but in my mind they are still a bargain. They are so cheap in fact that even I can (almost) afford one. They are also very fast. I ran the Universal Binary of Express on the low end Mac Mini and it was quite fast, if I do say so. And I do.

It looks like Apple is releasing Intel-based Macs as fast as they can. Those of you who are sitting on the fence about a new machine should act quickly. PowerPC Macs are disappearing faster than George Michael's defense fund. That's a joke, folks.

Apple also released something called an iPod Hi-Fi. A boom box for your iPod. Not sure what I would do with it other than to annoy friends, family, and co-workers. That's good enough for me!

In other news, Apple's World Wide Developers Conference is scheduled for August, which is later than usual. More than likely they will be showing off Leopard, the next version of the Mac OS. Possibly new machines as well. We will be there, taking advantage of the free food and trying to stay awake.

It's what we do, you know.

Nisus Writer Express
"To Intel or Not to Intel. Either way, we have you covered."

Nisus Writer Express is now available as a Universal Binary. This means that you can use it on your good old PowerPC machine, or one of those new fangled Intel dohickeys. Hey, dohickey is a word! I looked it up in Nisus Thesaurus, which is also now a Universal Binary. So there!

To get back to the point, Nisus Writer Express 2.6.1 will work on either machine. So you will be able to enjoy our award winning interface, the easy to use tables, powerful user-definded styles, LinkBack support, a preference to open your last document when launching Express, QuickFix auto-correct function ... I could go on. So I will. There are also old favorites such as right to left input support, non-contiguous selection, our powerful find and replace, and WYSIWYG font viewing.

The cost of Nisus Writer Express is only $69.95. A CD version is $10.00 more plus shipping. You can upgrade for only $44.95 (for those who own Nisus Writer 6.0 or higher). There is also a family pack, which is three licenses for $109.95 and an academic version for $39.95.

You can read all about Express and download a 30 day demo from our Express product page.

The system requirement is Mac OS X 10.3.9. Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) is recommended, especially for those using right to left languages.

So feel free to buy that Mac Mini, or a MacBook Pro. Or upgrade your old PowerMac G4 or use your iMac. Either way, we have you covered.

Tips and Tricks
"Support Options"

Having said that, our main tech support person, Mark Hurvitz, aka Miguel Sanchez, is going on a trip. A long trip. He won't be back for 90 days, and he isn't even going to jail. Hmm ... I wonder what that's like. Anyway, he will not be around to answer your questions. That does not mean that we will ignore those questions. Someone will look at those emails and answer them. If not, we will eat a bug. Two if I am hungry.

If you want to follow our Mr. Hurvitz on his trip, you can visit this web site:

http://www.davka.org/where/travel/europe2006

Anyway, since Mark is leaving for a bit, it is probably a good time to talk about support options for Nisus products. Most problems can be solved by going to our support page:

http://www.nisus.com/support/

That page will take you to our support forums. This forum is very active and most questions will be answered quickly. You can also search posts for quick answers to your support related questions.

There are FAQ's that answer a lot of ... well, frequently asked questions. They are located on the same Support page as the forums.

We have mailing lists which have friendly (sort of) people who will answer your support questions and other interesting issues.

Finally, you can write to us at support@nisus.com.

So remember, stop writing to Mark, and check out the various support options.

We thank you for your support of our support. Or something.
