In this letter:

Greetings From Nisus Land
"Universally Speaking: Express 2.6.1 and Thesaurus"

Since it has been a whole two weeks or so since we last had a release, we figured we were a bit behind. So, today we have released Nisus Writer Express 2.6.1 and Nisus Thesaurus 1.0.5.

These new versions have been compiled as Universal Binaries, which means that they will run on PowerPC machines and the latest Intel-based Macs. Good news for you brave early adopters.

Since we were releasing anyway, we thought we would slip in a few bug fixes while we were at it. Express now properly displays palette library when using German localization, fixed paragraph spacing issue for 10.3 (Panther) users, pasting text from Classic Nisus Writer now properly retains images and tables, and some fixes to clipboard and Classic document issues.

Nisus Thesaurus has not changed, other than being a Universal Binary.

You can download the new version of Express from the Express product page.

Nisus Thesaurus can be downloaded from the Nisus Thesaurus page.

Nisus Writer Express 2.6.1 is a free upgrade for anyone with a previous Express license. Nisus Thesaurus is free as it has always been.

So move forward, purchase that Intel iMac or MacBook Pro (I still dislike that name!) and experience Express and Thesaurus in a whole new way! Or use that PowerPC Mac that you have always used.

Either way, we are ready for you.

Nisus Writer Express
"Academics Untie ...er... I Mean, Unite!"

Did you know that, as an academic, you can save big money purchasing the academic version of Nisus Writer Express? No? And you call yourself an academic ... for shame!

First, let me clear something up. The academic version is the same as the regular version of Express, it's just cheaper. Why? Because, that's why.

The cost is $39.95 for the download, the CD version is $10.00 more plus shipping. You can purchase this version from our Express EDU page.

Now, understand that you have to qualify to purchase. You have to be a student, faculty, or work at an educational facility. Oh, and you have to be able to prove it, too. No handwritten notes, no phone calls from your mother.

So while you are throwing your money away on clubbing, beer, and music, just remember to throw some of that money our way.

Hey, we are only trying to help.

Tips and Tricks
"Reopen Previously Open Documents on Launch"

Once again, it's time for me, Rock Strongo, to impart more words of wisdom on you wonderful people out there. By wonderful, I mean weird.

Anyway, Mr. B.S. of Waco, Texas asks "In Express 2.6, I start up the application and it opens up the last documents I was working on. This didn't happen in Express 2.5. That can't be right, can it?"

Well, yes, it actually is right. This was a much requested feature and was added in Express 2.6. Many people wanted the ability to open up their previously used documents right down to the insertion point. It's a convenience thing, like when your butler leaves you warm beer on your pillow when you get home from a hard day of doing nothing.

If you are not fond of this feature, you can turn it off by opening Express and going to "Preferences", which is located under the "Nisus Writer Express" menu. Go to "General", then look for "Document Options". From there, uncheck the "Reopen previously open documents on launch" and it will not happen again.

I hope that helps those of you who have sent me mail on this. Even those who haven't.

Until next time, this is Rock Strongo saying why don't you help yourselves for a change!
