"10.4.3, Flaming Moe, and Another Rant"
So here I am, drinking a Flaming Moe and playing canasta on the internet when I see that there is a new update to OS X out, 10.4.3. Great record oil profits is that update ever a big one! Over 100 megs full of updated, chewy goodness. Is it just me, or are these updates just getting bigger and bigger and ... well, you know what I mean.
OK, I have another rant. Why is it that you people cannot turn off your cell phones in the movie theater? It's just rude! Plus, most of the time you are just talking with your friend about ... nothing. So stop it!
Everything Zen? I don't think so!
OK, I will calm down, light a candle, and think about how the world is just one big Boogie Wonderland!
Oh, one last thing. I once made a joke in this very newsletter (well, not this one, but you know what I mean) about Esperanto. To semi make up for it, I found a couple of podcasts in Esperanto.
Radio Idia Internaciona
and
Esperanto League for North America
Enjoy!

Tips and Tricks
"QuickFix for Don"
Once again, Don Diego de la Escribir sends his love in the way of a new tip. This one is about QuickFix, a very handy tool in Nisus Writer Express.
Last Sunday, again, sitting in my local coffee shop sipping hot fluid, the ocean making its noise behind me as I watched the locals speed by in big SUVs, I popped open my Macintosh and as it awoke I began typing.
I typed: "lastsunday" and put in a space.
That simple compound collection of phonemes expanded to my lovely sentence. I think that's awfully neat. I don't like to type the same thing many times. Thank goodness, the wise people at Nisus have made QuickFix. In my old epistle I explained how to use this to fix typos, this time, I've taken that long and convoluted sentence and put it into the QuickFix list.
The above opening sentence is a bit unlike the old one. My choice opening sentence is missing a glyph that was in that one ten times. (I'm told it's one of the ten most common glyphs in the English language.) I like this one ... I liked that one, but I'm using the Nisus Find tool to compose this completely without that symbol. Not only that ... I've decided that I can begin my epistles to you with that lovely opening.
But, how did I compose that sentence without the offending glyph? Ah, Find! Following penning the initial sentence, I selected the little offending speech-sound, chose Copy to Find in the Copy submenu of the Edit menu and then opened the Find window. Then I clicked Find All at the bottom of the window and suddenly they all became selected! I closed the Find window and typed: Command-I, Command-B, and Command-U to make them easy to see. Then, if I wanted to use a stand-in I double-clicked each and glanced in the Language palette to see what was available!
I love the way the good people at Nisus help us lonely vocable hacks.
Signing off now ... I feel the atomized ocean calling; the waves are high.
