Grettings From Nisus Land
"Intel Macs, Express, and Don Ho"

As I was eating my traditional lunch of astronaut bread and maple soda I heard the news that Apple is switching to Intel chips in 2006. Well, that shook things up a bit around here. Some of the engineers actually took a shower after hearing the news.

Yeah, it was that big of a deal.

You can read a couple of FAQ's about this announcement and what it means to Mac users here:

http://www.macworld.com/2005/06/features/intelfaq/index.php

Now, I usually do not opine too much in this newsletter, but this time I will. The sky is not falling, people! As Mac users, we have been through this before. More than once, actually.

Having said that, there will be a bit of pain. That's because it looks like the Classic compatibility layer will not be supported on these new machines. That's a problem for those of you using Classic applications. However, this does not mean that once these new machines are released, the old PowerPC machines stop working. Macs just work, and work for a long time, so your old machine will be fine.

Now what does this mean for Nisus? It means that we will have to recompile for these new machines. It seems as if it will not be much of a problem, since Apple has made that easy for developers (like us) who use Xcode and Cocoa to develop their applications.

So, I can safely say that when the time comes, we will be ready. That means that Nisus Writer Express will run on the new Mac/Intel machines. Hmmm ... I never thought I would write that. Ever.

It also means that we will be adding more features from the Classic version of Nisus Writer to Express, plus other fun features that are both new and exciting. Hey, we use it too!

So no worries, folks. Things will be fine. Your old Mac will run fine, the new Macs will run fast, and the world will be a better place. In theory.

Now to end on an up note:

Don Ho!

Nisus Writer Express
"Save Money Now!"

Not that long ago, when I actually decided to do some "work" (or take a nap ... same thing), I realized that we are getting very close to releasing the public beta of Nisus Writer Express 2.5.

This new version will include bullets and numbering, right to left input, support for LinkBack, and of course bug fixes, enhancements, and lots of things for people to complain about. By that of course, I mean praise.

Anyway, this means that very soon the price of Nisus Writer Express will go up. So I would recommend that you purchase Express now, before the price goes up to $69.95 for a download, $10.00 more for a CD.

So order from our Express page and save yourself some money. Who knows, it may come in handy some day. The money, that is. Express is always handy.

The Nisus Mailbag
"Fathers Day is Coming"

Fathers Day is coming, and I have the prefect gift for all of you dads. An iPod. Well, that's what I would want!

There is another great gift you can give, and that is the Nisus Writer Express Family Pack or the Express Gift Pack.

The Family Pack, which is priced at only $99.95 ($109.95 for the CD version) gives you three licenses for your household. That means you can legally install Express on three machines. Why do I mention that? Because I am a lawyer, that's why. Yeah, I moonlight ... right.

Anyway, it's a very good deal, this Family Pack. Doing a little (very little) math, the Family Pack breaks down to a little over $33.00 per license. Again, it is a very good deal.

The Express Gift Pack is two Express CDs for $80.00 (plus shipping). Purchasing this Gift Pack means that you can buy one for your Dad, and one for you. That's right, no guilt at all. You don't spend much, Dad gets a great gift, and you don't feel selfish. Everyone is happy!

To take advantage of these great deals, please visit this wonderful page.

Give your dad a great gift, the gift of Nisus Writer Express. Oh, and give him an iPod too, you cheap ... well, you get the idea.
