Grettings From Nisus Land
"Express 2.1.2 Release Sale"

We are pleased to announce the release of Nisus Writer Express 2.1.2. This new version ensures compatibility for Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4).

In addition to that news, Tiger's new Spotlight feature can easily search for specific words inside Nisus Writer Express documents. Spotlight can do this because it actually understands our file format. Swing to that, hipsters!

You can download the Express 2.1.2 update from our Nisus Writer Express page.

You can also use the "Check for Updates" feature in Nisus Writer Express, located under the "Nisus Writer Express" menu.

This update is free to current users of Nisus Writer Express. However, reading this newsletter will cost you $4.95, plus tax and VAT, and a get out of town tax.

To celebrate this wonderful event, and to celebrate the release of Tiger, we are throwing a three day sale. From now until May 2nd you can purchase Nisus Writer Express for only $49.95 for the download (add $10.00 plus shipping for the CD version). That's $10.00 off the regular price, kids!

So, to take advantage of this, simply go to the Express page on our website.

So now is the time to purchase if you have not already. Do it now ... I am crazy, take advantage.

The Ensorcelled 7 Sphere
"The world needs more of this"

Look, there is no doubt this is silly. I realize this. However, after much research, I have found that the world absolutely needs another Magic 8 Ball type web page. Really.

So here is the Ensorcelled 7 Sphere version 1.0.

Yes, I know this has nothing to do with anything. However, I am crazy, so I have that going for me.

Tips and Tricks
"Fonts and Express"

Rock Strongo here, and by the time you read this, I will hopefully be using the final version of Tiger. I say hopefully because Apple has not yet sent Tiger to its developers. Yeah, I know.

Anyway, since Tiger is here, I thought it was time to revisit an old topic: Fonts. Plus, I got a few emails about this lately, so why not?

Mr. Vern Mallack of Turnpike, New Jersey asks "I used to be able to write in Greek using the Symbol font in OS 9. That no longer works in OS X. What do I do now?"

This is a question that comes up fairly often, as many users wonder what happened to their Symbol font. They used to use the Symbol font for Greek (mathematical) characters. Now, to do that in OS X you need to use the Greek input method which will automatically select the Greek range of Lucida Grande (or a similar Unicode font that has the appropriate characters).

Also, Tiger ships with "extended system fonts to support Greek (modern and classical)" according to Apple.

Another question related to this is from Sammy Bosnia of Tollbridge, Illinios, who asks "How come I can no longer italicize certain fonts in OS X?!?!"

Sammy, I will tell you why, but first you need to pipe down! Thank you.

Many users have experienced the fact that certain fonts (that is "Families") do not have all the (what we used to call "styles", but, are now called) "Typefaces" or "Options" they remember having. (Purists are pleased with this development.) The "rest of us" wonder why we can't make our Geneva text italic. Nisus Software implemented a fix in Express so that you can make fonts that do not have Italic "Typefaces" appear italicized. It will please most of you, though it will probably displease the purists.

Speaking of fonts, you should also know that Nisus Writer Express supports Unicode, technology that enables international communication. To find out more about Unicode, you can visit the official Unicode web site.

Thanks for your letters folks, and keep them coming!
