Grettings From Nisus Land
"Tiger And The Next Version of Express"

Sitting here this AM, having a cup of flour like I do every morning, I sit and reflect on what a long, strange trip it has been waiting for Apple to annouce Tiger. That's Mac OS X 10.4 to you, bub.

I was thinking about all of the questions that will come about as a result of this announcement. The one question that will inevitably come up is "Will Express be compatible with Tiger?" At this point, I will answer yes, with a but. The but is that there are some potential issues that we are working to fix before Tiger is officially released. What this means is a minor bug fix release of Express, 2.1.2. This release makes Express compatible with Tiger, there are no new features. We will release this before Tiger is officially for sale.

However, there is also the matter of a new major release of Express, at this point called Nisus Writer Express 2.5. This new version will include bullets and numbering, right to left input, support for LinkBack, and the usual bug fixes and enhancements.

We will release this new version as a public beta, for those of you that are brave, or crazy. Sometimes that is the same thing. Anyhow, you will be able to contribute to the development of Express by sending us feedback on the beta version. Plus, it gives us an excuse to blame you folks who downloaded if things go bad! Works for me.

We hope to release the beta version very soon, so please stay tuned to this newsletter for updates.

Nisus Writer Express
"Buy now, or pay more later"

As it states above, if you do not purchase Nisus Writer Express now, you will pay more later. If I am reading my Magic 8 Ball (I mean, Ensorcelled 7 Sphere ... please don't sue me) correctly, and you will find that I am, the price will go up $10.00. Hey, don't blame the messenger, I'm just reporting the news.

To get the full skinny on Express, or to purchase, please go to our shiny Nisus Writer Express page.

So remember, buy now, save money. Buy later, line my pockets. It's really up to you, folks.

Linkback Update
"More Developers Sign On"

Since the announcement of Linkback, more developers have pledged to use LinkBack in their applications. Heck, a few have even released updates that include the LinkBack framework in their applications. Stone Create and Chartsmith are just two of the applications that are now shipping with LinkBack support.

To see a full list of developers that are using, or will soon use LinkBack in their application, please visit the LinkBack page.

If you don't know what LinkBack is about, that page will give you more information than you ever wanted to know. Really.

Nisus In The News
"Four Mice, No Cheese from Macworld"

Macworld has (finally!) posted a review of Nisus Writer Express 2. In it, William Porter says "With the release of version 2, Nisus Writer Express comes of age."

You can read why Express received four mice on this Macworld review page.

Back Up Your Data
"Yes, it is a public service announcement"

As someone who just about lost all of their important files, I would like to remind all of you to back up your data!

I bring this up because I very recently had a drive go bad, and without a backup, I am in big trouble. And by trouble, I mean that I lose my documents, mail, my pictures and music files. Luckily, I was backing up to my iPod (really!) and was able to restore my files, thus saving myself a giant headache, not to mention heartache.

I know this sounds like a public service announcement, and it is. If you are like me, and you have thousands of pictures and music files, backing up is one of the smartest things you can do.

Now, back to our regular newsletter.

Tips and Tricks
"Footnotes and Endnotes?"

In the grand tradition of Camilla and Charles, I give you Rock Strongo. Why do I say that? Because none of them wear any pants (there was a picture of Prince Charles in a kilt ... oh, never mind!).

This email question is from Frank Grimey of Santa Rosa, California. He asks "I use Nisus Writer 6.0, and I can have footnotes or endnotes, but not both. Is Express the same way?"

Well Frank, let me respond to this question with ... an answer.

When Henry Ford released the first models of his car he reported that you could have it in any color you wanted, so long as it was black. Sometime by the 1940s you could choose between black or some other color, but, that was it. I remember being driven across the country in a deep teal Studebaker.

Then, sometime in the early 1950s automobile manufacturers decided you could have a car with two colors: tan and brown or red and white, or light and dark blue.

The concept of two tone went the way of muu-muus long ago. However you can now spend a million dollars (US) and get a bright red and black Veyron from Bugatti.

What, you might ask, does this have to do with a word processor?

Back in the days of Nisus Writer Classic you could have either footnotes or endnotes, but not both!

Aha!, but now, in the modern world, you can, using Nisus Writer Express, for no more than $69.95 have it all! You can have both footnotes and endnotes.
