Grettings From Nisus Land
"The Next Version of Express"
It's that time again. Time for another version of Express, that is. This new version, codenamed "What is the version number?" will include bullets and numbering, right to left input, support for LinkBack (see below), and the usual bug fixes and enhancements.
This version will also be available in public beta form, so everyone should be able to have a look and contribute. Oh joy! We can't wait. Really.
This new version will be available soon, probably in the Spring. That's all I know at this point, so don't send email asking when it will be available, please? We will announce the availability via this newsletter, our website, and other outlets.
OK, enough levity. The cost to upgrade will be free to those who own any previous version of Express. For the rest of you, the price goes up to $1,000,000.00 plus change. Well, maybe a little less than that.
Anyway, these new features make an already great word processor that much better. They will complement our current features such as our award winning user interface, unparalleled find and replace, the ability to write in multiple languages in the same document, the intuitive table tool, the ability to share your documents with anyone (via RTF), and more.
At just $59.95 for the download version Express makes for a compelling addition to a serious writer's toolkit. There are many other purchase options available, including an academic version and a Family Pack (three licenses for $99.00).

Now, when will this new version be released?

"Open Source Framework Makes Life Worth Living!"
Nisus Software, The Omni Group, and Blacksmith announced LinkBack, a new technology that brings embedded objects to the Mac OS X platform.
Now, what does this mean for you? What am I, an engineer? Go look it up yourself, you no good ... er ... I mean, let me tell you why this is the coolest thing since Vegemite.
For example, say that you create a chart in Chartsmith and you paste this into a Nisus Writer Express document. However, you then need to make changes to the chart. What do you do?
In the old days, you would open up Chartsmith, make the changes, save them, and again paste the image into Nisus Writer Express.
Well, those days are over my friend. With LinkBack, you just double-click the chart, Chartsmith opens, you make the changes, save, and the Nisus Writer Express document updates automatically.
"Why, you can't do that!" says you. "You're crazy!"
"Bull Durham!" says I. "Thanks to Linkback, I can do this. You wanna make something of it? Oh, and I am crazy, yes I am."
This technology will be included in future releases of Nisus Writer Express, OmniOutliner, OmniGraffle, Stone Create, Border, and Chartsmith.
You can read the entire press release, or if you are a developer, download the source at the LinkBack project page.

"TrueType Fonts for OS X"
As I was at the local convenience store, eating my favorite after dinner burrito (Strawburrito ... now with artificial flavoring!), I suddenly started to think about fonts. Why? Apparently, I am a geek, that's why.
Anyway, I was specifically thinking about KeyFonts DX, a collection of 3007 high quality Truetype - Western Latin 1 (CP 1252)/ANSI fonts. Now say that three times fast! Yeah, it is not possible.
Anyway, this fine CD of very useful fonts is only $39.95 (plus shipping) and can be purchased from the KeyFonts product page.
You can also preview these fonts on the above page.
So next time you are eating a burrito, please think of our fine font collection. That way, you can avoid thinking about what the burrito is doing to your body ...
