Margin Question

Just a quick one...

The Margins palette displays margins as "inside" and "outside" instead of "left" and "right". Am I missing a preference setting somewhere that will change this to "left/right"?

Thanks for your advice!

Andy:

No, there is no way to change these names because inner/outer does not always mean left/right. For example, if you have different odd and even pages set (see choose "Nisus Writer Epxress" in the Page Setup dialog), the inner margin appears on the left side on odd pages and on the right side on even pages.

Also, though we do not support right to left text in the 2.1.1 release, we will support it soon and when that happens, the whole situate will be reversed.

I guess my question is, how why am I seeing inner/outer margins indicated when I don't have my document set up for different facing pages? I should just have left/right margins, I think...

Hi Andy:

We don't change the labels listed in the margins palette; it always says inner/outer. Of course, in your setup that always means left/right. Maybe we will change this in the future to change appropriately.

That would be a helpful fix. Other WP software I'm familiar with makes the left-right/inner-outter flip depending on if you format your document with facing pages or not.

Not really a big deal--I'm not adjusting my margins every ten minutes or anything. Just a thing I noticed one day while working on my Great American Novel.
