smart or curly quotes

I do like the option to automatically convert quotation marks to curly quotes, but it doesn't work quite the way I want it to.

In Dutch, my own language, the opening quotes are traditionally put at the bottom (at the same level as dots and comma's). With double quotes NW does so nicely, but with single quotes, it uses the English convention of placing all quotation marks at the top. Is there a way I could correct this inconsistency?

I do noy know how to fix your problem with the Dutch single quotation marks, but I would like to see a way to be able to »force» the way Nisus handle the quotation marks. Sometimes it would be good to be able to choose which »system» of quotation marks that would the preferable for a certain kind of text. This is supposed to be controlled by the macosx, but here in Sweden we kan use both »text» and ”text”, but the macosx only seems to knows ”text”.
I use Spell Catcher to be able to use »text» without trying to find out how to do to use this kind of quotation mark.

Bart:

Nisus Writer Express has the correct smart quote punctuation pre-programmed for most languages. If this is not correct, then we will need to fix it in a future release.

Currently there is no way to specify the smart quote settings you want yourself; however that is on our list for a future release. Thanks for the suggestion.

Charles,

that would be great. The system of quotation marks I learned in school would look like this: ‚single’ and „double” quotes. My character palette calls the single opening quotation mark a "single low-9 quotation mark".

Looking forward (as ever) to new NWE releases,

Bart
