Next style?

What does the "next style" field in the style sheet do? I have a "Header 1" style with its next style field set to Normal. I thought that the result would be that, after I typed my header and hit return, the next paragraph would be in my Normal style, but it isn't. It is in Header 1.

That's odd. This works for me. I have noticed, though, that if you type something in the next paragraph and delete all of the text, the paragraph style will revert to that of the paragraph before it. Could this be what happened?

Maybe that was the problem. It does seem to be working as you say.

Maybe this is a good opportunity to say again for the benefit of anyone reading that I'm not crazy about this behavior. I'd rather the now-empty paragraph kept its style until I change it.
I mentioned
this gripe a while ago on the forum. The discussion got sidetracked and petered out, but I will post again to that to bring it to the top in case anyone else cares to comment.
