pre formatting a document

NWP
How do I set up a document for something like a PhD with chapter headings, numbered paragraphs, footnotes etc etc, and can I do this with an existing 28 page essay?

Hello running nut,

I'm not 100% clear on what you want to accomplish, but I think you want to set up a template document for your dissertation. Congratulations on being ABD.

You report that you have a 28 page document already.

I suggest that you format that document as you want it, creating all the styles you will need as you describe them. You can then remove all the text from the document. When you save the file, from the File Format pop-up menu in the Save as dialog choose Document Template.

Whenever you open that file it will have whatever styles (and text or shapes if there were any) when you saved the file.

I hope that helps. If you need any additional assistance, please let me know.
