problems with footnotes

I am using NWE 2.6 When opening WORD documents the formatting and styles of footnotes are lost. What am I doing wrong? Or is this normal?
Any suggestions how to avoid this problem would be much appreciated.

Try saving the Word doc as an .rft and then opening it in NWE, that might get it to a point where you can work with it. Cheers!
