Saving tables with RTL and LTR columns

Post by robc1776 »

Hi,
Newbie here, be gentle.
I downloaded the Writer Express version 26FC1 to experiment on a project. I am using a PowerBook with OS X 10.4.3

I am trying to have a two column document with Hebrew on the right and its translation on the left.

I created the document, created the table, cut and pasted the Hebrew Text off a website, and the same with the English. I fiddled around with fonts a bit and then saved the page. Oh yeah, I also set up headers and footers. Everything is on one page, although the document has two for some reason.

I created a PDF of the document using the OS X print function (so I only create the PDF of one page).

Then I closed the document.

Next day when I opened it, the headers and footers were there but the table was gone!

I was able to reproduce multiple times. Header and footer not needed. And if I pasted the Hebrew, saved, closed and re-opened, the file was fine. Its when I added the english in the other direction that the table was lost in the saved document.

Sorry if this is too long....

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

I can confirm that something like what you are describing happens at least some of the time. I've tried it several times now and got something weird to happen once.

In my case the table structure remained, though with row heights of a point or so. When I stretched out the table, there didn't appear to be any text in it. However, I selected the entire table, checked the character palette and found that all the text had shrunk to a single point in size.

I was able to recover the text by increasing the font size.

I'd guess there's a bug of some kind, but it's not very consistent.

Have you sent the document to Nisus via the feedback mechanism under the Help menu? The document that acted weird the first time won't do it a second time for me. Maybe changing the row height or the font size cured it.

Craig,

Thanks very much! In what seemed to be a blank document, I selected all and then change the font size. Presto, the data came back, although the fonts were not the same... But workable.

I did not use the reporting facility in the product, and will do that this weekend.

Cheers,
Rob
