Hello,
I am preparing a document in landscape format which I wish to top-bind (i.e. long edge binding). I would like to create a top margin that staggers depending on even or odd page number (so that the top edge still has a nice margin after binding) using the Inner margin option in the Margins palette.
However, despite the document being in landscape and having attempted to print and select long edge binding, Inner and Outer only control the left and right margins of the document.
Is what I wish to do possible? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Set binding edge for inner and outer margins? (Landscape, long edge binding)

G'day, sasha.strong et al
I haven't thought this through or done the testing, but….
I'd probably use paragraph returns in the Headers (and maybe Footers) to give the desired spacing.
In the Headers on odd pages, I'd prefix the text with a paragraph return (of appropriate size). In the Headers on even pages, I'd have no such prefix.
In the Footers on even pages, I'd append a paragraph return (of appropriate size) to the text. In the Footers on odd pages, I'd have no such suffix.
Ordinarily, I don't like this sort of ad hoc approach to spacing, but I have the feeling that in this particular situation it may be the simplest way to go. As I said, though, I haven't tested alternatives.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hello Sasha,
Let me start by describing what I understand the situation and your question to be.
Choosing "Facing Pages" allows one to have separate settings for the left/right margins on alternating pages. This will be true whether in portrait or in landscape mode. This is appropriate for books that are bound along the vertical side.
You are now considering a book which is bound along the top. You seem to want alternating pages to have different settings for the top/bottom. This (apparently) is not possible. Even with the setting "Facing pages", the top/bottom margins remain linked on odd/even pages. (Note that the issue of portrait vs. landscape is really irrelevant.)
My question is really why would you want differing margins on such a top bound book? Carrying over the way it works in horizontal mode, this would seem to give you a book where the even pages are printed upside down. I guess you intend to lay your book flat on the table and read across the two pages from top to bottom? But this seems a bit odd to me. Admittedly the usual way to make such books means that the two pages are facing in opposite directions (away from the spine), but at least one can always read the pages by flipping the book.
Anyhow I am not writing this to judge you. I'm just trying to understand the problem correctly.
Assuming I have correctly understood what you want, I would suggest the following:
(A) See if layout programs (such as Indesign?) support what you want and export your Nisus doc to such a program
or
(B) Assuming you want to get it to work with Nisus, try the following.

- Don't bother with "Facing pages"
- Set the margins for the odd pages and print the whole doc to pdf
- Set the margins for the even pages and print the whole doc to pdf
- Throwaway the pages you don't need
- Combine the odd and even pages from the pdfs into one doc and print

Actually it just occurs to me that you might even simplify this a bit:
I think I have seen printer settings that allow you to print only odd or even pages. That would make this even simpler.
- Print out the document one-sided with the odd page margins
- Return the printed pages to the printer and print one-sided with the even page margins (from page 2)
