Internal 'sidebar'

Post by tedg »

I'm using sidebar in the page layout sense. This is common in magazines where there is a block of text that dives into some topic in the main text flow.

For example, a magazine article in gravity may mention black holes. A 'sidebar' would be a block of relatively small text/images — a sort of page within the page — that explains black holes. I think classic could do this. Can we in Nwp?

G'day, tedg et al

You can do this using Text Boxes.

Tools > Insert Shape > Text Box

Text outside the box can be positioned using the Shape Wrap Palette. Or you might create a new Section that includes the Text Box and adjust the page margins (Margins Palette) especially to suit that Section.

Note that Shapes (including Text Boxes) can be positioned so they extend outside the page margins — for that extra bit of chic design flair, if you're that way inclined.

Tables can do that, too. I sometimes use a one column, two row table for a sidebar picture with a caption. You can also put an image in a text box, which is nice.
