Mozilla: should I trust them?

Like quite a lot of people, I imagine, I frequently find myself downloading the latest version of Firefox.
Each time I do so, I see a welcome screen telling me of all the wonderful security features I could take advantage of if I signed up for their various services. The latest one being a VPN. Each time I hold back, thinking "why should I trust these folks more than anyone else?"
On the related issue of VPNs, for a few years now I've been using Encrypt.me (formerly known as Cloak). However I wonder if they're still a good choice, and I'd be willing to change if there was a better one.
Any opinions, tips?
