Non-English Spell Checker not working

Do you have any suggestions for what I might be doing wrong in not getting my Russian spell checker to work? I found the language and added it to the list. I can type in Russian, yet when I try spell checking it (even with the Russian flag showing on the bottom right) nothing happens.
