Start continuous page numbers for a new chapter

Post by hoberdiek »

I once knew, but have forgotten!

I write Chapters then stitch them together. So, suppose Chapter 1 ends on page 50 and I want Chapter 2 to begin on page 51. How do I do this? (I don't use sections).

Thanks!

Just to be a bit clearer, when I open up the Sections palette (if that is what I'm supposed to do) and type in the page number I wish the new chapter to begin with, both "start on" and "restart on" are gray'd out.

The Sections palette is the correct location to look. And actually, even though the "Restart At" label is disabled, you can actually type a number into the field. So just replace "1" with "51" and it should work as you expect.

As an aside, the reason the "Restart At" label is greyed out is because the first section always has an implicit restart turned on, eg: the first section for a document (even in a document with only a single section) always has to define the starting page number. I think to make this clearer perhaps we should disable only the checkbox and not the label's text.
