iOS integration

Hi,

I use — and love — Nisus Writer Pro. However, I would like to be able to use a RTF app on my iPhone too, that I would be able to sync with Nisus Writer Pro via DropBox.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Michael

I have been using Textilus Pro in my iPad. It's not perfect, but it was the only word processor I could find that saved in rtf. The more complicated the formatting of the Nisus document, the more errors Textilus will make (e.g. it doesn't relate to outlines), but for many purposes it works well, especially if you are starting the file in it and then opening it in Nisus. They are also very receptive to feedback and have improved the app significantly over the years I've been using it.
It would be nice if there were an iOS version of Nisus, but I would imagine that making an iOS version of Nisus would be difficult for the same reasons.

I'll check it out.

Thank you for the suggestion.

All the best,
Michael

I don't know if it helps or not but, I am using plain old Apple Notes. It has been hard to let go of my need to see my formatting as I edit but, if I copy my Nisus text, paste it into a new Nisus document, kill all double returns and leave only single returns, kill all tabs, then changing all single returns to double returns and pasting it in a notes page, then I have all I need for editing on my iPad.

For my purposes, I use the iPad to walk outside with and maybe have a cigar while I review what I have been writing. I enjoy selecting a section of text and having the iOS read it back to me. Hearing what I have written as I follow the text with my eyes gives me a very useful perspective on my phrasing that I would not otherwise have access to.

Depending on where I am in the development of my document, I can usually just cut and paste the notes back into my Nisus document which syncs the moment I get near my Mac again. Again, the key for me is to get over wanting it to be formatted all the time as I am writing it.

Great. I'll give that a shot. Thanks.

The best way I've found, to edit NWP documents under iOS, is to export to a DOCX file, open it in Pages for Mac, save it in iCloud, and edit it in Pages for iOS.

When back on the Mac, export to DOCX from Pages, and reopen it with NWP.

If you don't have Pages for Mac installed, just exchange the DOCX files via Dropbox, iCloud Drive or the Mail.

Most of the times, it works flawlessly, even with articulate documents. The more complex the document is, the more will the differences be. But compatibility is not bad.

I've tried skipping the .docx part of this, just opening my .rtf files in pages on my iPad, and then exporting them back to .rtf when I'm done. Since I keep my Nisus files on Dropbox, I just export from Pages to Dropbox.

Probably best to close Nisus before you start messing with your drafts.

After playing around with various RTF iPhone apps, as well as Pages, I decided to use Google Docs. It's synchs flawlessly. If I no longer need to be synching the file, I can export it as an RTF file and then import it to Nisus Write Pro.

Seems to work the best for me.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Have you tried Notes Writer? It handles RTF quite well, both opening and saving. Worth a try.

Update : Notes Writer do not support tables though.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the post. I looked up and saw 3 versions:

Notes Writer
Notes Writer Pro
Notes Write +

Which one do you recommend?

Thank you,
Michael
