How can I get the word count of the notes? Or of the entire documant including the notes?

Put the cursor anywhere in the notes field and select all (Command-a). The Stats Palette will show the word count of notes only.

Select the whole document (Edit:Select:Select All Document). The Stats Palette will show the word count of the body as well as the notes.

There may be some discrepancy between the results when you add the word count of the body and the notes and get the word count by selecting the entire document. I tested this on a document.

words in body 61,352
words in notes 15,136
total 76,488

Selecting the whole document gives: 76,550

I tried yet another way using PowerFind Pro: Find All with (Wild Card AnyWord). It gives 76,140

The word count is greater with Select All Document because words in headers and footers are also counted once.

That may explain the discrepancy.

On the topic of word count, is there a way to do section word count (rather than document word count) as an automatic number?

Regarding section word count…

Sorry not at this time. We can add that to the official To Do list.
