I have a document with cover and abstract, which take 2 pages.
How do I have no page numbers on the first these first two, then
start page number '1' on the third sheet?
The on-line explanations were no helpful.

This is done by using sections.
1. At the end of the second page insert a section break (Insert>Section Break>Next Page).
2. Then in the Sections palette check the Restart Page Number box
3. In the Header & Footer portion of the Section pallete check the This Section Has Different Headers or Different Footers box as needed.
When you insert page numbers they will begin on the third page at 1.
