Using function keys on OS11.6

Post by credneb »

Using os11.6 on my 2014 MacBook Pro, how can I re-enable the function keys to function as I want on MY computer?

For years I have used F8 to compare two documents by running Kino's old macro. Hitting F8 now starts the Music application, which I do not want. I'd like to delete that, and other Apple application garbage, but that does not seem possible. Or disable the default call to the Music application.

Even in Nisus menu key prefs, pressing F8 to re-assign this shortcut starts Music.

System preferences do not seem to provide a way to do this. Is there?

After using a Mac since the Fat Mac era, I am about ready to leave the Apple ecosystem with something else. Unfortunately, that would mean saying goodbye to Nisus, but it is MY computer, not Apple's.

Thanks for any possible help. I'm not averse to venturing into the Terminal.

Have you tried https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204436 which discusses how to turn the Function Keys off and on? There's a setting in System Preferences to handle this for apple keyboards. They suggest that if you are using a non apple keyboard then there should be a utility to do it.

Hope this helps!
