Help, after clean install of Bug Sir [sic]

Post by B.Otter »

So, clean install of Big Sur 11.2.3, then migration of User but not Applications.

After installing Nisus 3.2.1, mostly ok but one issue I can't resolve. Nisus asked me to point it to my nisus root folder, forgetting the exact language, which I did. Now, whenever I Show Document Manager, I get this error window:

Screen Shot 2021-04-08 at 12.59.46.png (26.71 KiB) Viewed 1102 times

There are no files in the root of ~/iCloud/Nisus

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brad

Let's have you try restoring a few potential points of access in your Nisus Writer preferences:

1. In the Doc Manager pane, choose the desired location for your Document Manager.
2. In the Saving pane, choose a location for "autosaving new documents".
3. In the General pane, choose a location for "synchronized settings".

You don't necessarily need to have all three of those established, but if you ever previously used any of them you might need to restore Nisus Writer's access to the same folder locations you used earlier. Please let us know how it goes.

What do you mean exactly? Your strong language implies that maybe you lost access to multiple documents. If so, then my question would be: do your files exist at all? That is, can you see them in the Finder and iCloud? If you don't see the files elsewhere then you likely have a data migration (or iCloud) issue that has nothing to do with Nisus.

No files lost. Thanks for you question. But those last suggested steps left Nisus with multiple locations for templates, styles. Not clean.

Mangaged it. Saved the file "keyboard shortcuts.plist", as well as styles, etc.

AppCleanered Nisus entirely.

Reinstalled. Replaced "keyboard shortcuts.plist" and user created stuffs.

Muffed Nisus settings cleared out. Error messages gone. Seems well-behaved for now. All files where they used to be. Thanks.

Bit of a blow out, yesterday, apologies. I'd had my second Moderna vaccination on the 7th and was a bit ruff around the edges.

I think the problem I encountered involved a collision of new and old settings by running the Nisus installer to install as new on top of all my migrated user data on the fresh install of Big Sur. Nisus, and certainly the Document Manager seem to keep track a lot of stuff, as does Big Sur. Nisus settings and the Document Manager all seem to be in order now.

Big Sur does seem to be another kettle of fish vis-à-vis previous OS's. Three fresh installs of other apps on top of my migrated user data threw up various issues that I'd not seen pulling the same trick on older OS's. Will need a new strategy.

Nisus is now my primary document engine, that of course has its own idiosyncrasies to learn, especially with moving or replacing files where the Document Manager has a proprietary attitude. Learning!

All best,

Brad

No apologies necessary! I'm sorry for the frustrating experience. I'm glad to hear things are settled down and sorted out for you now. Congratulations on getting your vaccinations done 8)

Please let us know if you see anything that's unusual in a bad way, or if there's anything you'd like improved in the Document Manager.
